Satmar Rebbe Shlita on Arrests of Eida Officials

The arrest of the gabbai of the Gavaad of the Eida Chareidis has already prompted a statement from the Satmar Rebbe Shlita. The Rebbe called the arrest of the Gavaad’s gabbai an affront to the Gavaad himself, Kikar Shabbat reports, quoting the rebbe as adding “We must rock and shake the world in response to the affront to one of the world’s leaders of chareidi Jewry”.

Kikar reports that the rebbe, HaRav Zalman Leib of Satmar Shlita was taking part in a dinner for one of the Satmar mosdos when he heard of the early morning arrests in Yerushalayim, including the Gavaad’s gabbai.

The rebbe is quoted as adding “If need be, we will arrange protests opposite Israeli Consulates in America and the scream will be heard across the world. Of late, there have been numerous incidents directed against the chareidi tzibur in Eretz Yisrael by the government but this incident is far more severe and it mustn’t be permitted to pass quietly”.

  1. I’m sure everyone involved is actually clean as a whistle.
Embezzlement, tax evasion, corruption? What frum person let alone senior Eida members would be involved in such a thing?

OK, just now I took my head out of the sand for a quick breather but I’m going back in!

  2. I agree with the Satmar Rav. We need to protest to show that some people and their minions need to be above the law… if you did the crime you need not necessarily do the time if a) you are important and b) you can get enough batlanim to protest on your behalf

  3. “The Rebbe called the arrest of the Gavaad’s gabbai an affront to the Gavaad himself”

So the Gaavad himself is also guilty?

“Kikar Shabbat reports, quoting the rebbe as adding “We must rock and shake the world in response to the affront to one of the world’s leaders of chareidi Jewry”.

I see what you did there.

  4. Did it ever occur to the Satmar Rebbe that efsher maybe its remotely possible that the law was broken which actually warrants an arrest?

  5. I agree with the Satmar Rav, we must be transparently clean if not the government will make a chillul haShem from the whole thing…

  6. Behind bars the Eida will not be able to write out large checks to Satmar but the will also have a little quiet time to think about there non-response to the vilda chayas in Mea Shearim! NO PROTESTS will happen period, no on cares!

  7. OMG, no win situation.

When a kehilla has no sovereignty to a government (israel or america), private laws, regulations and policies are made up as you go along.
