ALERT - Important Message From Lakewood Chaveirim

November 5, 2009

lkwdchav.jpgLakewood Chaveirim would like to inform anyone who will be traveling on the Garden State Parkway on Friday Nov 6 Erev Shabbos Parshas Vayerah (tomorrow), that Exit #127 North Bound on the Garden State Parkway which goes to the 440 North to the Outerbridge Crossing, will be CLOSED from 11:00AM Friday morning until Sunday Morning.

Alternate routes which can be used are Route 9 or the NJ Turnpike - but keep in mind that Exit #13 off the NJ Turnpike to the Goethals Bridge is very susceptible to heavy backups on heavy traffic days (such as Fridays).

Please plan your trip from Southern NJ to the NYC area with enough time, and please remember that this is the first Friday of Daylight Savings Time - so Shabbos starts much earlier.

In the event if it seems like someone may get stuck close to Shabbos please contact Lakewood Chaveirim for help from their “Emergency Shabbos Host Program” at their hotline 732-370-2229.

  2. Just to be annoying with a pointless correction, it’s actually the first Friday of Eastern Standard time, not Daylight saving(s) time.

  4. I’m sure you meant “first of Friday of Standard Time” as opposed to Daylight Savings Time.

  5. If you get stuck close to Staten Island, try the Edison/Highland Park community (close to Outerbridge), or the Elizabeth/Hillside community (close to Goethals). Union City is near the Lincoln Tunnel. Teaneck is near the GWB. Passaic isn’t far, either.

  6. Thank you for this important info. Kedushas Shabbos also means leaving yourself with plenty enough time to get there so you are not a bundle of nerves the entire Friday night. And btw, it’s the first Shabbos of EASTERN STANDARD time I think. Shabbat Shalom to all.

  8. Who cares what you call it…just don’t be late for Shabbos! Thanks YWN for the info. Do you have a time when it will re-open on Sunday? I need to go that way on Sunday morning.

  9. all you have to do is get off at 125 follow signs for 35 n. goover bridge. stay on 35 until it hits 440 e. you can also take rt 9 bridge from 125 but make sure the exit to 440 isn’t also under construction. 35 is definitely ok

  10. #6 You are right about kedushas shabbos. Last week on Friday, when traveling from NYC to Dallas for Shabbos, we almost got stuck in a different city due to the plane’s engine malfunction. It’s a good thing we didn’t change the clock yet, because we landed in Dallas at 4:30, and licht benching was at 6:20!

  11. #4 How about joining the chevra in staten island?

This closing of the outerbridge is not some zionist trick or outright anti-semitism, is it? to cause shabbos problems to the frum olem.
