Court Upholds Decision To Keep Rubashkin In Custody

srubash.jpgFormer Postville meat plant executive Sholom Rubashkin should remain in custody prior to his sentencing on 86 financial fraud charges, a federal appeals court ruled on Friday.

The U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a judge’s decision to hold Rubashkin without bail, before he is sentenced on financial fraud charges.

Rubashkin, 50, was convicted in November of charges that included mail, bank and wire fraud, making false statements to a bank, and failing to pay cattle providers in the time required by law. Prosecutors have said the former vice president at Agriprocessors, Inc., faces a recommended prison sentence of 21 to 27 years.

A sentencing date for Rubashkin is not yet set.

  1. These false charges result from a specific form of antisemitism, which is almost never talked about.

That is the fanatical religion of the “animal rights” crowd.

The liberals worship animals (they claim they do not, but they do.
I have seen many many posts on many blogs where they have said that animals are superior to humans and humans must all be ‘wiped out’ so the animals can have ‘their’ planet back.) and believe in their absolute right to tell any lie and do anything, no matter how underhanded and no matter how evil, to promote their agenda that no one must ever even look at an animal, the wrong way.

They make blogs where they do nothing but advocate the most vicious most terroristic tortures for anyone they accuse (even when the accusations are obviously false) of ‘abusing’ animals.

On most blogs, they advocate these horrific tortures without trials against not only the accused, but against their friends and families as well.

On one blog, where the story was about someone with a Jewish sounding name, who was accused of animal abuse; They attacked all Jews, as being so evil because they ‘all’ abuse animals.

These are the same ones, who support the terrorists and wanted Bush to be put on trial for “war crimes” for waterbording terrorists accusing Bush of “torture”.

  2. #2 — Let me understand you clearly. You’re saying Rubashkin’s 86 felony convictions were engineered by anti-Semitic animal rights fruitcakes? Please say you’re not serious. You make the comments section of YWN look as loopy as the animal rights extremists’ blogs.

  3. #1 When was he convicted?
I had heard that nothing even went to trial yet.

#2 what does the number of convictions have to do with anything.
Did you know that the antisemites of the world use that false logic to blame all Jews? Because “Jews were kicked out of every country, they ‘must’ be as evil as we antisemites say they are”.
That is what antisemites always say.
Are you then saying they are right?

#3 What was he “convicted of”?
Garbage, like hiring illegal aliens when liberals hire them all the time, but some how Rubashkin is the evil one to be singled out for it?

I am not the one making this section look loopy, you need to look in the mirror for that.

  4. OK I did not read this article was responding based on previous articles I had read about this.
So now I see the convictions and 86 charges.

Still though, when antisemites want to get a Jew it’s easy to trump up false charges.
Look at all the troops in Iraq aaccused of all kinds of things and many of them were falsly charged.

How about Irv Ruben who was convicted of trying to blow up a mosque even though THOSE charges were clearly false which was why they had him murdered in jail.

They claimed it was suicide, but he had said hours earlier that he was meeting with his lawyer who had “good news”.

He had reason to be optimistic and no reason to be suicidal.

Even if these charges turn out to be real, I’ll bet many liberals do the same kinds of things and will never be charged for it.
It’s a game they play, a very deadly game.

  5. Locknload, With all due respect it seems that you have an inordinate amount of respect for the U.s justice system.
Nathan Lewin clerked for the U.S Supreme Court and is on the most repected Constituntional Lawyers in the U.S. He is a modern-orthodox Jew hardly one who would seemingly find common cause with the Ultra-Orthodox Rubashkin. Still he has called the conviction of Rubashkin a miscarriage of justice and in the appeal for bail which he personally filed raised serious questions about the way Judge Reade conducted the trial.
On top of that Lewin has publicly chastised those who failed to come out in Rubashkins Defense.
Whether or not this is a case of anti-semitism I do not know, nor to tell you the truth do I very much care.
However after reading through several accounts of the raid and subsequent trial as well as speaking to people who had personally visited th Plant prior to the raid I have come out with one thing.
I chose to be “dan lechaf zechus” a man who has given millions of dollars to tzedaka and done unbeleivable chesed to all who asked, including non-jews.
It is my belief that after Sholom Rubashkin did so much for Jews of all stripes that is the least that he deserves. It is for this reason that I have proudly donated money to his defense fund both before the verdict and after the verdict.
I hope you will chose to take part in this mitzva of “pidyon shvuyim” as well.

  6. One wonders if the Lubavitcher Rebbe was alive, what he would do to help his devotee?

Use his political clout in Washington?

Or order all Mitzva Tanks to advance on Postville?

    And with what results?

In its heyday, a unified and galvinized Chabad was an almost irresistible force!

  7. #2, speaking of loopy, commenting on #2 while you’re writing it, sounds pretty much like and endless loop to me. Yeah, I know.

  8. I refer everyone to the excellent front-page article by Debbie Maimon in this weeks’s Yated Neeman newspaper.

Shedetails the clear Rishus of the prosecutor and the judge in using every trick in the book to make Rubashkin’s life miserable.

This is REAL ANTI-SEMITISM. Wake up Rabbosai–They means all of us!

  9. The only thing I disagree with is that it was the animal rights crowd. The very first complaints made against Rubashkin was from an official from the Iowa State Department of Labor who was a former president of the union local over there in Postville, Iowa. This individual was able to contact PETA to send in someone with a camcorder to tape what was going on there. The union local wanted to unionize the workers at Agriprocessors. To his credit, Rubashkin did not allow it. The reason is that law of kashruth have nothing to do with union contracts. This is a vendetta by the union and sending a signal to anyone who would oppose them such as myself that they are not to be messed with. There you are.
