Nevertheless, doesn't the Novi tell us that Moshiach can come either "b'ito", in its time, or "achishena", speeded up, meaning that we have the power to determine to some extent the time Moshiach will come?

chesedname, prayers are always answered. Sometimes the answer is "No". Moshiach will come when it suits the Divine purpose. It is good to pray for that day, but I find the idea that we can coerce the Master of the Universe into doing our bidding against the Divine Will ... troublesome.

You all have great points. what i was trying to bring out, even if we're perfect maybe hashem still wants us to ask for moshiach and mean it. like the avos hashem wanted to give them children and of course they deserved it, but hashem wanted them to daven for children before it came. I'm not saying lets do what we want and just ask for moshiach!

I was always taught and therefore I believe that Moshiach will come when we deservie to receive him. So davening alone will not do the trick. It is what every single person comes up with, sinas chinam, ahavas yisroel, davening, learning, not cheating, not stealing, not molesting, not abusing, not breaking the laws. Basically being ideal Jews representing Hashem's Torah, Mitzvos and maasim tovim.

as they say, "the well was never full until it is empty"- you don't appreciate something until it's gone, so too the other way, we can't, or at least it's hard to appreciate the fact that the beis hamikdash isn't here until we know what we are lacking, so it's hard but we gotta work on it and try
also, we can't just expect to walk into davening and when we get up to es tzemach, feel sorry and start crying for the beis hamikdash/mashiach, we have to make it part of our lives

haifagirl, if Hashem decided that He will send Mashiach when there are (lets say) 100 Tefillos. Only 90 of them are able to be filled by people like the Chofetz Chaim and the Chazon Ish, and the remainder must come from "everyone else", then your Tefillos accomplish just as much. Additionally, for the people you mentioned, who were involved with issues involving the public, they felt the need for Mashiach more. For someone who isnt, they need to "work harder" to feel the need for Mashiach. Your (seemingly) simple Tefilla will accomplish more than anyone can imagine, and never forget that no Tefilla is ever wasted.

About the original post, I once heard from a teacher of mine, that on Yom haChuppah, people ask for everything, but they tend to forget that davening for Mashiach includes it all.

There can be any number of reasons why Mashiach isnt here yet, but wanting him more, and davening more, will definitely help to bring him faster.

Every day, when I insert my personal tefillos into Shemoneh Esrei, I always ask for Moshiach. However, I have a feeling the Chofetz Chaim and Chazon Ish and others also asked for Moshiach, and if their tefillos weren't enough, what chance do mine have?

Yout right. We got to keep davening, REALLY daven for moshiach.
When Reb Chaim Pinchos Scheinberg was in America a few years ago, I went to see him. We davened Mincha together and Reb Chaim was the Chazzan. The emotion that the Rav had during וְלִירוּשָׁלַיִם עִירְךָ בְּרַחֲמִים תָּשׁוּב, was amazing. We all put all our emotions into the other brochos. The Rav is begging and pleading for Yerushalayim!

And chesed, keep on doing chessed, thats sure gonna speed up the geulah!

After drinking many bottles of wine on purim, it hit me (not the bottle) why Moshiach is not here.
It says by the Avos, Hashem didn't give them children right away because he wanted them to daven for it. Is it possible that Moshiach is not here because we don't specifically ask for him?
Yes, we all want him but by daveing don't we ask for health, money, shidduch, etc....
What are your thoughts? should we all daven really hard, at least until pesach for the quick coming of Moshiach??

So this kid is stopping traffic in flatbush on East 27 street, (stands in front of your vehicle so you can't proceed). I can tell he's under the influence. I roll down my window and he says "Chayav Inish Livsumi" he probably wanted to say "Kol haposhet yad nosnim lo" He continued to say that he's from Yeshiva XYZ.... so I gave him a small amount. I'm not a rich guy, I don't drive a BMW/Lexus/Infiniti/etc. So he didn't like the amount I gave so he throws it back at my 7 year old son behind me and says "Here's shalach manos for your son" ...meanwhile there are cars behind me honking their horns.... My father taught me that one should not curse (I don't mean th filthy-mouth kind) so let me spin it this way: He should work an honest day in his life trying to support a family and understand my position.

angryJB makes an excellent argument against giving young people their first drink on Purim. Hope he is now sleeping it off and has learned his lesson.

I guess all the warning about not drinking this year did a lot of good. My family just passed a car accident in a frum neighborhood. Hope nobody is hurt. When will people learn?

Angryjewboy - maybe you would not be so angry if you learned a little self control. This is not some teenybopper blog where anything goes. And btw, this is a perfect example of someone who should not be drinking on Purim.
