In England, the newer washing machine have models that are made to take up to 7 kilo, front loading. My machine takes in the hot water directly and yes it has 2 hoses. But, there are extra wash cycles. And, yes, there are some machines made in England, but most parts, even on the English made machines, come from GERMANY (Imach Shemum Ve Zichrum!). English machines can wash up to and including 90C, which is extremely hot.

We were in Israel recently and washed our clothes in a machine in the apt we were in and the clothes did not come out as clean as at home. I rewashed them at home, everything came out when sprayed with St. Moritz Well Done. Phenominal stuff! And yes, Chochandpatience, one should not use it on wool things either. Thanks for pointing it out!

TBB - European machines (I'm not sure that there are any particularly made in England) have to heat the water, whereas America machines get their hot water from straight the water heater in the house (2 tubes to connect to the machine). That's what takes the extra time for the most part. There are now machines as large as 8 kilos (17.6) pounds made in Europe. I don't find that the clothes get much cleaner but laundry definitely takes more time to get it done.

SayIDidit - I think you're going crazy from the laundry because you're a man and you need a wife to do them for you. Have a stock of shirts, send them to the cleaners to get clean and work on your shidduchim list so that you won't have to be busy with these jobs for much longer. Save these tips to use when your wife-to-be has a baby and can't do it herself.

Try the Oxyclean stick. It doesnt get on your hands, and you rub it into the stains. I have to say the kids shirts and tee's are usually clean after that.

my cousin with her not yet one year old swears by oxyclean. she soaks the clothes in it then washes as normal in the machine with detergent
for smelly towels add vinegar to the load and wash on HOT.
for whites, we use tide with bleach powder plus liquid bleach

brand name detergents make the difference, as does adding fabric softener such as downy to the load. also use bounce sheets in the dryer

for ironing, find a good dry cleaner

and today MY laundry drove me crazy! i washed a blanket and put it outside to dry in the sun (best way imho. smells yyyuuummmm) and when i went to bring it in i found some birdy used it as a bathroom. YUCK. had to wash a freshly cleaned towel ALL over again. dont worry, i used hot water and extra soap :)

Hi, Best Bubby, good to see you posting. I don't think your idea is so off the wall. I use the Well-Done to get stains off countertops and plastic storage containers. I use Tilex to get mildew off shirts that were left in the hamper too long, by mistake. We have to be inventive.

--moski, I HATE fax machines! You stick a few papers in and some get jammed, some dont go through and some get crumpled up! PLEASE, no Fax Washing Machine cause then your papers will come out soapy and your clothing inky!

--flyer, I thought Vanish is a name brand. Am I wrong?

--phillybubby, do you know if those "ingredients" are available in Israel? (And if they are they will probably be very expensive. Tide in America is at a crazy price!)

--popa, so simple! Got someone for me?!

--cinderella, I may just do that. However, the dry cleaners in my little city is not the greatest. But its probably better then doing it myself!

Well, thanks everyone for the suggestions, tips and laughs! Keep em coming!

I know it is CRAZY but this is what I do for all the shirts, and stains on tee shirts. They are like brand new each time they are washed, after one wearing.

I spray with St. Moritz Well Done Oven Cleaner all the collars and cuffs and any spots on my tee shirts, and any other stains on my clothes, EXCEPT SILK!!! Put into machine at either 30, 40 degree C., easy care or cottons, with a capful of Vanish either for whites or Coloreds, with liquid ariel all temperatures. The clothes do come out beautifully clean.

I hide the bottle of the St Moritz in the garage, and put back immediately after use. I have been doing this for years and it really works.

I must point out though, that the American machines do wash much quicker, but the clothes are not as clean, as when washed in an English machine. My machine takes an hour and quarter for a color wash and about an hour and half for a white wash. That is the difference. By the way, the English machines are front loaders and only take 5 kilo = 11 lbs.

SayIDidIt: "I use Vanish liquid to spray my shirts AND I add a cup into the WM, and I STILL get stains on some shirts! It is so frustrating!! "

So your real problem is that stains don't come out. You can save time and skip the spraying - sounds like your shirts will look the same.

How about the other suggestions here - dry cleaning or using a different detergent?

I use Tide with bleach alternative, half a cup of Arm and Hammer Washing Soda and 1 cup of Clorox bleach in hot water. I usually don't scrub the shirts (unless they're really bad). We probably have the whitest whites in the area! I do put the washer through a second rinse because it makes me feel better to wash out all the soaps and bleach.

oomis, firstly, as I stated in my OP: "I have to wear gloves" and even then, if a tiny bit gets on my sick, it starts turning white and burning." And secondly, I dont have a hubby and if I did, I wouldnt tell you cause that would be Assur! But if I had a wife, I hope she will spray them cause Im going bezerk!!!! But thanks for the sugs! "

Your'e reight, I forgot thast you mentioned the gloves in your OP. I made the very female chauvinistic assumption that you are a lady. Sorry for the mistake, because you were doing the laundry. My bad. I learned a lesson today. In any case, I would wear extra long rubber gloves, not just the latex surgical type. Mayeb you need to use Dreft or some other type of gentle non-allergenic detergent.

I use Shaklee brand powder whitener which I add a generous scoop to every white load. Stains that don't completely come out I put in a bucket or laundry sink to soak in the the same powder for 3 days until it comes out. No chemicals means no burning hands for me, and no time to waste spraying my boys and DH shirts. WHo has time for that anyways?

I add Vanish liquid/powder to the washing powder instead of spraying.
I find it does the same as the spray, but it's quicker.

I use Vanish liquid to spray my shirts AND I add a cup into the WM, and I STILL get stains on some shirts! It is so frustrating!!

Yeah, laundry does take time. I take plenty shortcuts, and it still takes longer than I want it to. Just one of thoes things.

I add Vanish liquid/powder to the washing powder instead of spraying.
I find it does the same as the spray, but it's quicker.

If the stains don't come out, I add a bit of bleach to the next wash (only for *all whites*, of course)

Also, it's worth making sure they change shirts daily. Less black and easier to clean.

Firstly, wear gloves as your hands are sensitive. Second, gey your hubby involved in this, too, if it is so time-consuming, or send the shirts out and let someone else deal with the issue.

Laundry is what I do in between everything else.

I cant stand it! To spray shirts is just crazy! It takes so long and kills my hands. I have to wear gloves and if a tiny bit gets on my sick, it starts turning white and burning. And after spraying each shirt, which takes hours, some of the shirts still come out dirty! And then sorting everything and putting them away! It is making me totally meshugah!!! HELP!!!!
