It was in the middle of the war in some camp, where a father risked his life to get his son a morsel of bread. Later he found out that his son give it away to some other child. Naturally, he berated his son for it and told him how much it cost him to get. Avraham Avinu and Sara Imeinu, being the Shleimim (wholesome) that they were, couldn’t relish in their own joy and happiness, while seeing neighbors and friends suffering. So INCLUDED with their Tefillos for their own Yeshua, was a Tefillah others. A true Shaleim cannot enjoy own blessings while his friend is lacking.
