Something to keep in mind:
The Gemara says that the reason the letter Heh has an opening on top is to show that when you do Teshuva you don't have to go back to where you came from. Turn around where you are and you are accepted.

I would suggest joining a Minyan for Rosh Hashana as a step for right away. This is besides following The Wolf's advice.

Your obligation is firstly to Hashem to fulfill as many of His Mitzvos ( commandments) as you can, then it is your obligation to maintain ethical relations with your parents and then the community and the individuals in it ( also as Hashem commanded). You are already familiar with what is required of you - don’t delay it is hashoov (important) for you, and for all Jews as your mitzvos – yes, yours - sustain the world - it says so in the Holy Torah. See how great Our Maker is, how wonderful to serve Him only!
Don’t take it to heart if some people are not perfect. Sometimes you can even teach them.
It is written in the Torah that “the world was created for your sake” –very inspiring- just for each individual.
Most importantly do not spend time or get stuck in the Coffee Room, as I have said before as it could be grounds for divorce or similar- basically it is a modern contradiction what is banned(in herem) but goes on unabated in this very ill-lit area.
And do not trust anyone(except Hashem and His prophets and sages), ah-but being an IDF soldier, you would know that already. There is nothing “extreme” about Hashem and His Ways, just some people making lashon hara, has v shalom.
Hashem is not “extreme’- He is correct. Also Hashem is extremely wonderful “for his lovingkindness is everlasting” - also from the Torah and He wants you to return -t’shuva- ASAP - as soon as possible.

Unique,

First of all, welcome back! It's wonderful that you want to be chozer b'teshuva.

My advice to you is very simple: Find a rabbi with whom you can "connect" and whom you feel is right for you. He will guide you on your journey.

Good luck and wishing you a K'siva V'chasima Tova!

I have spent a lot of time going through posts on this site and finally grew the courage to put a scenario to you. I'm an irreligious soldier in the IDF and am interested in returning to my roots, I come from a frum home, but the closed society turned me off(IMO). I was wondering what posters would suggest as begining steps to return. It seems that most people here have got a clear view on Judaism, there are those who I find extreme but I would also like to hear their opinion.
