No, I wasn’t asking for that. I didn’t even know that anyone was doing it. Oh, well… my stupidity shows again. Please forget I said anything.

I dont know anything about this event so what I am posting is just conjecture.

If it is some sort of summer Tzedakah event because there are only so many sundays in the summer its tough and its worse this year with 17 Tammaza and Tisha Bav being on a Sunday along with a Sunday during the 9 days. 3 Sundays are lost (Sundays are the best days for a fundraiser). There are other origanizations doing fundraisers too so needed funds might not get collected.

So they must have gotten like some sort of Heter like a Siyum or something to get permission for this fundraiser

    zdad,

but the barbecues are during the week

additionally i don’t think one is allowed to make a siyum just to have meat (i’ve asked a shaylah especially since one of my grandfather’s yahrtzeit is during the nine days)

    goq,

    yes

why would it be ok? the 9 days are not days for partying. even for a good cause.

because there is no simcha in tofu (believe me) if someone made a “party” with just sitting around and doing nothing it would be muttar too

I agree, tofu and just sitting around is not a party. I would imagine this isnt what happens at these tzedaka bbqs. surely isnt what happened at the bbq that recently took place and whose pictures are posted here on ywn.

Somewhat unrelated, but I am currently seeking advice on whether or not I am allowed to either shave, trim and wear a clean suit for a job interview scheduled during the Nine Days?

The company in question is not Jewish and I have strong reason to believe my looking unkempt would detract significantly from my chances of getting this job.

Specifically, is it even possible to claim “hefsed mamon” when the mamon in question is theoretical? I’ve learned that fear of mockery is insufficient reason to shave, so I don’t know if I have a leg to stand on, here.

One does not ask for halachic advice on an anonymous message board; instead, one contacts his rav and asks a proper shayla.

You and I both know that half if not more of the subjects discussed here would be better discussed between the topic starter and his/her rav.

THAT SAID, my intention is to inspire discussion, as I believe is usually the case on a message board of any caliber.
