Please tell me everything there is to know about these 2 seminaries. What is the difference between the two? What type of girl goes to Bnos Sarah and what type goes to Machon Raaya?

I was gonna link that post, but it doesn't really say much about Bnos Sarah (except that it's similar to MR).

    789jkl -

You are probably more likely to get a response if you start a new thread.

i actually applied to both! i think that girlswise, bnos sarah is more simple, aidel girls and machon raaya is more a mix of real out of towners and flatbushers... i hear it's an interesting crowd

789 jkl I would suggest that for these girls you should speak with your local NCSY director, they send girls to seminary every year, some already beyond the point you describe, some not there yet. One school I have heard of spoken very highly for this is Machon Maayan. There is also a kiruv oriented one year program associated with Bar Ilan University. ALso ask @ NCSY about it.

    Hi umm...789jkl,
not to be rude or anything, but do you think you could start this in a different thread? It's really important I get the answer to my question and I'm afraid this will cause people to go off topic! Thank You!

Resa123, what exactly do you mean about the difference in girls? Besides doesn't it change every year?

Machon Raaya is mostly out-of-town (out of country, actually). It's only this year that they attracted all the New Yorkers.

And I wouldn't say either is more academic. Machon Raaya is a different type of academic. It's really more comparable to Michlala in terms of academics.

    OneOfMany,
Can you please explain what you're sayinng about Machon Raaya and Bnos Sarah being different types of academics? What does that mean it's more comparable to Michlalah????? Also, if this is too personal you don't have to answer, but did you go to Machon Raaya?

Well, it's really rooted in the difference between the types of girls that go to each seminaries. Bnos Sarah is populated by the mainstream-yeshivish, cerebral aidel type. Machon Raaya specifically caters to the out-of-town, intellectually curious (read: sometimes get into very...lively discussions with teachers), like-to-have-fun type. That really makes the two have crucial differences in their respective approaches to teaching and academic missions.

(We're actually having a Shabbaton reunion thingy and my friend is sitting next to me and yelling at me to "stop being so anti-social." But she's also helping me phrase this response. So thanks, friend. :) )
