For all those who have not yet contacted their tax professionals re their taxes here are the links for applying for extensions for filing (filing only not paying).
If you already gave the work to your pro make sure he files for an extension or do it yourself. I have been filing for extensions myself for at least the last five years.
For the Federal form http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4868.pdf for paper filing
E-filing requires either income below 58,000, Turbo-Tax type package or preparer
Here is the information link for NYS http://www.tax.ny.gov/e-services/pext/default.htm . They no longer allow paper applications

Please do not confuse everybody with additional info if you can not back it up.

Incorrigible; semi-retarded; eccentric; perhaps a man; somewhere between mean and average; sometimes only a bit over the top; arbitrarily cynical.

    Hmmm. This is really fascinating.
Do you think you could post a link to CCH?

  3. If you owe the IRS money, you need to pay it by April 15th (actually April 18th this year) even if you file for a 6 month extension. Otherwise interest will be added. The extension will only avoid penalties.

If you are due a refund, you can claim it for up to 3 years, even if you do not file an extension.
