you will be fine at a Chabad event.
While I do have reservations about Chabad, Their outreach is great and the people they send out for outreach are really socialble people. People who are really friendly many times in a hostile evironment. Also its likley the people you will see there are more like yourself than you think.
I really think you will enjoy yourself and unlike a shabbos or other Holiday you can leave and drive away whenever you want
December 6, 2012 5:04 pm at 5:04 pm #912704zahavasdadParticipantI know the mods dont usually allow advertising for event, but Chabad usually has a huge menorah lighting ceremony at the entrance of Central Park at 5th Ave and 59th St. They use a Cherry Picker and a Blow Torch to light the Menorah and its pretty cool. They also give out Latkes and sing some Chanukah Songs
I was pass the area a few weeks ago and did not see the Menorah, I am sure they are just cleaning it up.
Perhaps a train or Bus ride to NY on Sunday. Spending the Day in NYC and seeing the Menorah Lighting which would be between 5-6pm and you could be home by about 9pm
