Does anyone know of any Teffilah rallies taking place for the terrible Matziv in Eretz Yisrael?? Countless lives are in danger, are we American yiddin going to stand by idly?? I heard Chacham Ovadia has been to the one at the Kosel,

there are prayers for rain, and this fire is the result of the woodlands in the north being very dry, due to the lack of rain.

Rain would help the people threatened by fire and all the people who could be potentially harmed by fire in the future, in addition to helping the agricultural industry to raise more food.

Ronsr, this fire was started intentionally and was not due to the lack of rain. Perhaps the lack of rain caused it to spread as quickly as it did.

I don't have access to good internet connections lately, so I haven't been posting so much. But B"H I'm okay. I live in Hadar (one of the charedi neighborhoods in Haifa), and we have not been evacuated. From the bus on my way to work I can see the smoke billowing, but during the day I can't see flames. Last night, at the bus stop on my way home from work, I could see some flames in the distance. The entire sky over there was orange.

Please daven for rain and for a quick end to this fire.

    Thank you for your concern.

    Just released:

To Friends and Constituents of Agudath Israel:

As everyone is aware, there is a terrible forest fire raging across northern Israel, which has resulted in scores of deaths and injuries, destruction of numerous buildings, and displacement of thousands of people.

The safety and well-being of our brethren in Eretz Yisroel always occupies a prominent place in our tefillos, but now there is obviously an additional reason to be marbeh b'tefillah, and particularly to have in mind those who have been injured or displaced by the fire or have lost loved ones.

We are establishing a special relief fund for victims of this terrible fire, the proceeds of which will be distributed to those who have suffered loss as a result of the fire. If you would like to contribute to this fund, please make checks payable to Agudath Israel of America, indicate that the contribution is for "Israel Fire Relief Fund," and mail it to our office at 42 Broadway, New York, NY 10004. Tizku L'mitzvos!

A gutten erev Shabbos and a freilichen Chanuka.

Charlie Hall claims that we are to blame for being too supportive of the Republican Party and the conservatives. He suggests that it's a punishment for not heeding the calls of Ze'ev Jabotinsky to demand that the government supply free food, housing, clothing, healthcare and schooling. After all, claims Dr. Hall, it's Halacha.

Charlie Hall claims that we are to blame for being too supportive of the Republican Party and the conservatives.

Did he say that that was the reason for the fire? If so, please show us where.

Or are you simply using a tragedy to take a swipe at Dr. Hall on completely unrelated matters?

@The Wolf Here it is. Sorry, the link I posted before doesn't work.

I can't suggest that he stated so explicitly; however, this is what I can make out of his words. Or else, what connection would the fire have with extending unemployment benefits?!

    Dave,

Thanks for the link. Next time, please link directly to the post (use the # at the bottom of the post) so that it's easier to find.

My understanding is that he's blaming Israel's inability to fight the fire on policy decisions. That's not quite the same as saying that the reason for the fire is because people support the Republicans or conservatives.

    Wolf,

He constantly referred to the fire therefore I didn't link to only one post. Additionally, he kept blaming the fire on conservative policies in the US, not Israel, with no explanation of the connection, while invoking Jabotinsky. It gave me enough reason to interpret his claim as a punishment.

"Charlie Hall claims that we are to blame for being too supportive of the Republican Party and the conservatives."

That's a lie and you know it. I await your retraction and apology.

    Dave,

Why do I want to have beer with people who knowingly spread lies about me?

    Professor Hall,

You can ask James Crowley. He was, at least, more innocent and definitely more humiliated.
