We’ve all been there. 2 and a half hours of unwavering devotion to HaKodosh Boruch Hoo on a Shabbos Morning, culminating in the unanimously-considered most Choshuv part of the whole Shtick – the Kiddush.

Now Chaverim – I’m looking for T’Shuvo’s for the following Shailyahs:

1- What Gashmiyus is absolutely essential for a g’valdik Shabbos Morning Kiddush?

2 – What Food shall be chosen for the first Mezoynoyz Brocho?

3 – What do we think about mixed Kiddushim?

4 – What are the best conversation starters in the Kiddush Hall?

5 – What are the best ways to remember to say ‘Al HaMichyoh’ upon leaving the Kiddush Hall?

Many thanks – please feel free to answer as many Shailyahs as you like.

    1. Alcohol

    2. Who cares as long as there’s good schnapps.

    3. Stick with one type of alcohol or you’ll get sick.

    4. Age and price of various types of Scotch.

    5. Designated brochah acharonah guy.

    1. Wine or Grape Juice for the Rov to make kiddush.

    2. Lokshen Kugel

3.Mixing wine and shnapps is not a good idea

4.Our shul is too small for a Kiddush hall so the Rov says a Dvar Halacha

    5. Ahl Hamichyah poster on the wall

MA, you’re delaying Moshiach by participating in such gashmiusdik parties.

What do you mean by mixed kiddushim? Different types of fish?

    90 minutes, but who’s counting?

And here I thought the topic would be about over-the-top kiddushim like the ones that were described in a WSJ article several months ago.

    May I add question 5b?

What happens to the all the women who fill their plates with the salads?

Never mind that with all the oil and sugar the poor baby greens are drowned in, a plateful has more calories than a generous slice of that famous caramel cake…

    My question is-

With all the ladies avoiding mezonos and not drinking hagafen, are they actually yotzei Kiddush? Does eating a plate of vegetables and a cube of melon allow you to be yotzei kiddush be’makom seudah?

Golfer, IIRC, there is one shittah (Shiltei Giborim) that it’s okay, but Mishnah Berurah say we don’t pasken that way.

This is no seuda they’re talking about; this is about a gluttonous gashmisudik affair.

1- What Gashmiyus is absolutely essential for a g’valdik Shabbos

    Morning Kiddush?

    Anything above 80 proof.

2 – What Food shall be chosen for the first Mezoynoyz Brocho?

I always recommend a plain piece of chocolate cake or a kichel, you can be sure you will have some mezonos in the slice of cake or kichel. The fancier cakes are loaded with cream, margarine, fillings and frostings, and usually contain very little “mezonos substance”.

3 – What do we think about mixed Kiddushim?

I always think it is a bad idea to mix hagafen and shehakol beverages in the same kiddush cup. Best to make kiddush on a cup of wine, and then make a lchaim on the bourbon or scotch of your choice.

4 – What are the best conversation starters in the Kiddush Hall?

Is there more herring? Great, can you pass it? alternatively, Did you try some of that (insert favorite scotch or bourbon here) yet? No, pass your cup and lets make a lchaim.

5 – What are the best ways to remember to say ‘Al HaMichyoh’ upon leaving the Kiddush Hall?

Listen when the Rav is saying out loud and answer amen.

Who said they are interested in being yotzei kiddush bimakom seuda?

MA– wouldn’t it be better to fast in shabbos in order to bring moshiach?

Kiddush bemokom seuda must be mezonos or another cup of wine.

    1) what do you mean by gashmius, what do mean by gevaldig?

    2) Whatever you enjoy most

    3) negative

    4) you shouldn’t talk with your mouth full so n/a

    5) if it’s truly a gevaldig kiddish then you might need to make hazon by the time you finish ( is the rabbi still around?).

2 – What Food shall be chosen for the first Mezoynoyz Brocho?

    NO NO

    Only Divrei Toire

Why isn’t anyone taking about ruchniyus here half as much as they’re taking about gashmius? It’s a Shabbos kiddush about gashmius more than ruchniyus?

    This is the gashmius thread.

Joseph: Perhaps because the imagery of a raucous, ravenous hoard of people jockeying to access piles of food seems so incongruous with the dignified, serene behavior one associates with ruchniyus.

That’s not to say that the latter isn’t preferable to the former. It’s just a possible answer to your question.
