Hi! I’m new here so please excuse me while I try get the hang of things. I’m a 16 year old girl from South Africa. In my December holidays I want to use the month to learn. I’ll be 17 by then. I am very interested in Gateshead seminaries. Do you know if they have a one month programme or if it is possible to join for just a month? I also want to see what it is like as I may want to go there when I finish grade 12. I would also like details such as if there is accommodation, free time, what type of learning, what happens on Shabbos and prices.

    Thank you

Disclaimer – Before somebody shouts “Shoemaker, no higher than the shoes”, this is why I am answering: ????? ???? ??? ????? ????? ???.

I don’t believe there is any official short-term programme. I know the program (In Gateshead old) is 3 Years, and they get very annoyed if you leave after 2, which is a pretty standard thing to do. Whether or not they will allow you to come for a month in the middle of term, I don’t know. Also, note that the Sem closes for Winter Break sometime in December.

    Hatzlachah in whatever you do!!

I disagree with everything that yekke2 said. But I must concur that the programme there is 3 years and I have asked Rav Miller senior lecturer at said institution if he gets annoyed with girls who leave early . To which he replied that he most certainly does not (though everyone whose been there will say otherwise)

They have there buildings dehuynu one street of houses which are used for classrooms and bedrooms. Every morning is shiurim and afternoons study partners, bar from Tuesday which may be a day off – at this point unclear. Much hatzlocho with any upcoming ventures

the gateshead new seminary is a 2 year course but it has happened that girls will come for a short time. there was a girl very recently who came for 3 weeks to the sem. this year the sem was off for december but this coming year the sem will probably be open but im not 100% sure. you would have to contact the pricipal to find out if this is possible though. gateshead old sem will most likely not let you come for just a month. no one does that in gateshead old and certainly no one comes late when they go for the year. if you go to gateshead new then they will give you accommodation but you may have to push alot in order to come for such a short time. the learning there is very hashkafah based whereas in old its very very text based. in old there is alot of free time as there is no set schedule in the afternoon whereas in new sem there are courses that keep the girls busy. i cant help you with prices but i hope i helped with everything else. my source is me as i am in sem in gateshead.
