Nisht- L’gabei cholent, there is a chashash that the guy is an apikores- since Karaites don’t eat any chamin on shabbos- but there’s no chashash that he’s a goy! And l’gabei shuckeling, how is that shayach at all to being jewish?

If anything, these are simanim, not sibos. It seems like there is more to the story…

There is more to that story

The man who did not like Chulent was a Charedi bocher from an eastern European country whose backround could not be checked, He went to an Averch and did not eat the chulent, The avereich was afraid that the man was a min and thought the man ruined his wine. He then asked Rav Elyshiv what to do.

They could not figure out his exact backround since he was from some eastern european country (I am assuming it was from one of the former soviet union countries)

It’s possible he was just a spy and really was not jewish.

He was not a spy, but the gist of the Shaliah was a guy who claimed he was Charedi didnt eat Chulent, that sort of makes sense, not if if he was jewish. Someone who was brought up yeshivish should be expected to know Yeshivish customs

It would be no differnet if someone claimed they were Satmar and didnt speak any Yiddish or didnt know how to dress like a Chassid.

    zahavasdad,

I think this is one of those things that some dont get, Some people just like or dislike certain foods.

I think most of the posters here “get” that. I think the problem they may be having is with the impoliteness of declaring foods that they happen to like to be disgusting and vile, which are very strong words.

Yes, people should be tolerant of the fact that you do not like gefilte fish, but you should also be tolerant of the fact that others do like it. And that they do not like having foods that they eat frequently described with the same adjectives that one would use for excrement.

In our home, we do not force our children to eat things that they do not like. But we do stop them if they say “yuck” or “gross” and instead suggest that they say, “no, thank you”, or “I do not prefer to eat that.”

Alot of people dont like Sushi and I get that, I have a friend who calls it “Bait” and I’ve heard people express their extreme dislike of it. I really dont care. I am not offended if someone says Yuch to Sushi or anything else I like.

Can it be used to catch gefilte fish?

Zahavasd, the fact that you are not offended by improper behavior does not make it refined or decent.

My four year old grandson politely said, “That’s not yummy to me.”

Of course you will think I’m just a doting grandmother.

But I heard echoes of, “Beheima asher lo tehora…”

How do you think it makes me feel when people are talking about eating food that literally is so disgusting it makes me sick just to think of it.

Imagine that I was walking around telling you about how I’m going to eat a bagel with dog feces spread on it. If you’re gonna eat cream cheese-fine. But can’t you do it privately?

i do agree with golfer completely (and your grandson sounds delicious – like meatloaf but not gefilte fish).

    but having said that…..

come on guys. you are overdoing it just a bit. I would never tell someone their food is gross, i would never tell someone they are wrong for liking certain foods but there is nothing wrong with stating on an internet forum that you don’t like a certain food or think it’s gross. considering all the nasty things people say about others beliefs, lifestyle, hashkofos, clothing etc. why are you offended that someone hates cholent?

    Thank you Syag!

I love hearing how terrific my grandkids are, but that has to be the most exotic, creative compliment my grandson has received.

And you’re right. All this excitement over food may be a bit strange.

But I had to escape to this thread as some of the other ones were turning my stomach. More than a bowl of three week old gefilte fish turning green at the back of an out of order fridge.

    popa_bar_abba,

    1. If such occurred in real-life conversation, try, “could we please change the subject? I would really prefer to not talk about fecal bagels.”

    2. In the CR, even easier: don’t open the thread!

Ok, but suppose I was serving them at a bris, along with lox, cream cheese, tuna salad, and rugelach. Is it ok for you to say, “dog feces bagel, ewwwwww”?

Hmmm, probably not a good idea to say anything to the baal simcha in that case, just back away slowwwly, and then run faster than you have ever run before.

But if there’s chrain, perhaps you can cover it up with that.

What if there’s dog feces for the men, and salmon for the women?

Then a man should just back away slowly, and then run faster than ever before. And a woman might not know, but if she does it’s probably better for her to remember she left the blender on at home.

The op asked where are we on this? and zd gave his answer it wasn’t to disrespect those who love gf but he has a right to his opinion its not like hes a guest at your table and you serve him something and he says this is disgusting he just answered the question.

I’m sure if it was someone you normally agree with that said that you would not bat an eye.
