Can you keep cash in your socks?

    Tucked in a sleeve?

In your shoe, behind the tongue?

Only when traveling internationally with undeclared cash in excess of the legal limit.

Really? What about if you go to a Jewish concert and aren’t bringing a wallet or purse?

Or even to shul when it’s a permissible day?

I remember cash. That’s what we used to buy things with back when I was a kid. If you take today’s children to a museum, they might have some on display though some kids might be harder to convince than others.

Does it make a difference if it’s credit?

Can you use a dollar as a bookmark in your siddur?

When travelling internationally with a lot of cash, I put it in my socks. Not because I’m carrying an illegal amount of money – simply because I don’t want it stolen.

Don’t worry – I put it in a plastic bag.

Shoes don’t sound very safe to me, especially since I have a hard time keeping my shoes on.

A friend of mine told me that when she went on dates, she always carried money in her shoe in case the guy didn’t order a taxi for her and she had to take a bus home.

Personally, I always take a purse with me, and I never expect the guy to order a taxi for me.

That was in the days before cellphones. But nowadays, how can someone go somewhere without a purse (or a pocket)? Where would you keep your cellphone?

Do you know how many germs there are on a typical dollar bill? Do not put it behind your tongue.

The only halachos of carrying money would be when it is assur on shabbos or yom tov.

I paid for my wife’s engagement ring in cash. When carrying it in NYC, I had it in my shoe for safekeeping. I wasn’t going to keep that much in my wallet or pocket!

Joseph, you don’t carry your cellphone everywhere with you?

I do occasionally leave it in the house when I go to take out the garbage, but that’s about it. Even then, I don’t like to leave it at home. What if I get locked out, and I need to call someone?

In my case, though, my cellphone doubles as a watch, so that is part of the reason I like to have it on me.

But I don’t see how someone can go somewhere without a cellphone, especially nowadays when there are no payphones. I certainly wouldn’t want to travel somewhere (like on a date) without a cellphone.

What if you get stuck somewhere?

What did people do before Alexander Grahm Bell was around?

Shoes are not a good place for money in the airport when you go thru security.

They got stuck, sometimes died if there was an emergency and they couldn’t call for help.

They were Frum then, so they didn’t go on dates. 🙂

And the girls never left the house: 1. it’s not tznius & 2. Why should they leave the house? Everything they need to do is in the house – the dishes, and cleaning, and laundry, etc.

Some cell phone covers have that little wristband so you can carry it on your wrist. It’s an option in a safe place where there is no threat of being mugged chas v’shalom.

My friend has an iPhone watch. She’s sent me text messages from her wrist. Can make phone calls too. It’s the coolest thing. Also expensive.

“Can you carry tzedakah money in your shoe?”

Only if your socks are clean. I would advise taking it out of your shoe before the Ani sees, he does not need any more embarrassment.

So guess who took her phone with her to Yerushalayim today and lost it on the way? Maybe it’s not such a good idea to take my phone with me everywhere after all.

Boruch Hashem, came home to find a note from my mother with the name and number of the person who found it. So all’s well, B”H!

I guess the person who found my phone was smart enough to look up “Ima” in my contact list.

May Hashem bless the person who found it. Everything has its reasons, I believe. It might be a call to action, maybe to focus less on your phone when you go out. I’m very happy you can have it back, Baruch HaShem!
