kiss up like nobodys business. They're a boss, they like to feel in charge. So if you kiss up sincerely they really go for that. Ask him questions from time to time, even if you know the answer, they enjoy sharing their knowledge.

Treat your boss the same way you would want him to treat you. They are only human, they are not the king.

Usually a boss wants to get the feeling that you are doing your job the same way as if it would be your personal business.
Try doing the extra step, most likely he will notice it.

Some bosses feel a need to boss workers around. Some feel a need that workers should discuss their work with them. Some just feel a need to see that workers are competent and dedicated. Some like to feel part of the crowd. All need respect. I've seen them all. Are you having a particular issue?
