I would be upright and not immature when people ask me serious quetions and requests and save that if ever for another time and another screen name and ignore silly requests and fraternizations, to give this forum a semblamce of respect, structure, and normalcy. And I would be more lenient on some posts and not hypocritically lenient on others.

If I were a mod, I would simply enforce the rules that Y.W. Editor posted 3 years ago. For some reason unbeknownst to me, the current mods don’t do their job of enforcing the rules (particularly preventing posts of loshon hara against posters, rabanim, and groups of Jews). So I’d also have them all stripped of moderator status. In that vain, I’d also have some sort of warning system where egregrious posters would be warned and subsequently banned for offensive submissions.

It really is sad that the rules aren’t enforced. I have read posts on the forum for a while now, but I only recently started taking an active role. However, the sina that is allowed through by the moderators is appalling, and I am contemplating leaving based upon these tragic circumstances.

I remain for now because every once in a while there is an interesting Torah discussion, and I suppose I hope that after Tisha B’Av, and with Elul around the corner, that posters and moderators will contemplate the seriousness of this matter.

    Kozov, I agree 100%!

ZK, are you saying that your a Mod??!

If I was a mod, I would not delete posts that I disagreed with (I’m not talking about L”H or anti Torah posts) and I would allow posts that question the actions of the Editor/Mods.

Its feels like some people here suffer from chronic Schadenfreude and gneivas daas. If you care so much about Torah which i suspect you dont, why do you let it go on? Its kind of suspicious that some of our “outspoken” “friends” get a strange pass that they don’t deserve. Can we please get some feedback from the “mods” who say they dont have time to responds but do to other unrelated posts?! You can have fun in the CoffeeRoom without whats going on here too, you know. Oh and while your at it post the post you deleted for no apparent reason!

I would try to make my actions (to delete) self explanatory so that posters wouldn’t feel the need to question why their posts were deleted.

I think that being a moderator is a lot like being a parent.

When there seems to be a lack of consistency, no rhyme or reason to why certain posts are deleted and not others, it leads posters to question the competency and true motivations of the mods.

I would “nip” the verbal attacks in the bud much earlier.

I also think the role of the mod presents an awesome opportunity to help yidden with diverse hashkafos and opinions be able to learn mutual respect (like a mediator).

*How would you make your actions to delete self explanatory without posting the offending post?*

Dear Mod: it is very clear from this thread that we are not asking to be mods. These are more like suggestions which the Editor and Mods should be paying attention to. I really wanted to hear what ZeesKite had to say. It is impolite to interrupt someone when they are speaking! Especially someone so Zees!

    SiDi:

ZeesKite did that! Do you think a moderator would cut off part of a word? There is actually a rule here not to impersonate a moderator. However, ZeesKite’s fun is very obviously a joke, although it’s written in bold.

There seem to be a lot of posters who wonder why their posts were deleted (including, on occasion, me), which leads me to believe that the connection between our “offenses” and the rules of posting are not clear.

Perhaps a brief response in place of the post (“violation of rule #3) to allow posters a clue as to the offense would help.

A new thread of mine was recently deleted without explanation. I e-mailed staff and was simply told that responses to this topic were listed under home page news, not as a seperate topic in the coffee room. When have we ever had a rule that a topic in the news cannot be discussed in a thread??

This made absolutely no sense to me. It seemed like a willy nilly decision without a violation of any particular rule.

There is actually a rule here not to impersonate a moderator. However,

exactly the point. Either enforce the rules or delete them. Whether or not you think something is funny should not be criteria for enforcing rules.

As HaLeiVi stated, that is the case. People here from a while back know not to take ANYTHING I write seriously!!

One more thing. You read exactly what I wrote!!!

btw, Mods are truly tzadikim, they put up with me and my daily (hourly!) “literature” so graciously..

mommamia – At least you got unsatisfactory responses. I don’t think I have ever received a response at all.

I do remember some time back that someone asked the mods to comment on their deletions and one responded that it would not be physically possible. I do get that.

Moderating is a time consuming task.

It also puts mods is position where they have to read ugly/anti Torah responses (which, no doubt, has an impact on their neshomas) and then make a decision to include or delete. It’s not a job I envy, although I understand the importance of it.

I just think it would be more helpful to have a brief notation made when a remark is deleted to enable to writer to recognize their “wrong”. I imagine that it would also allow mods the opportunity to track how often posters are repeat offenders so that once they hit the third time, they’re prevented from posting, at least temporarily.

This is just a puzzled question about moderators, not a “what i would do if…” Seeing as how i have never been formally or informally welcomed here, not sure I’m permitted to even think of being an actual Mod. Anyway, here’s the Q:

I noticed we’re in the middle of posts on a thread about giving a wife the “sotah warning”. Ok. Everyone has different interests, different questions, who am i to criticize? But a day or two ago somebody posted a question regarding repairing a marriage after infidelity on the part of the other spouse. I didn’t post a reply right away; I’m not a therapist, and being married does not make me an expert on marriage, especially in areas where I lack experience. I did find it admirable that the opening poster was trying to repair an obviously problematic marriage, instead of, as has become so popular, disposing of the whole mess without even trying. By the time I got around to saying something to that effect, the thread was gone, closed, deleted, disappeared.

So that’s the Q – What makes one of the above posts interesting and worthy of comment, and the other unfavorable?

    I await A.

Maybe the thread already went to the next page?

It may still be listed, but there may be too many new responses to other threads to allow for a thread with no recent posts to be on the front page.

Nope, mommam, i think it’s closed. But guess what?

    -Now they’re Both closed!

Hope it had nothing to do with me.

But perhaps I flatter myself, it probably did not!

Why should one want to be a moderator. We need both. The world is incomplete without both, posters and moderators.

Suppose Mods start a thread “If we were a poster”, wouldn’t that sound silly (hey that’s my first name)? No, mods are (the great) Mods and posters are (the lowly common) posters!
