How should I go about making my retainer kosher l’Pesach? For the past two years I think I soaked it for a couple of days, then ran it under warm water it’ll melt if I use hot water), maybe used soap or toothpaste, and put it in some thingy that vibrates to remove shmutz from tiny crevices. Can someone tell me if I’m doing anything wrong, or if there’s something else I could be doing, like selling it and not wearing it for Pesach?

You should probably start by asking your Rav, not a bunch of anonymous people on the internet who may or may not know what they’re talking about.

Dont Ask Your Rov. Just Ask Your Dentist (If he is Frum) He probably did all the research already!

Hey; just thinking about retainers and Kashrus — Why if I eat a solid hot steak does my retainer not become meaty? I should not be allowed to have a coffee, even six hours later!

Aren’t you supposed to remove your retainer before you eat?

K, I finally asked my rav. First he said to dip my mouth, with the retainer in it, into boiling hot water. Took me a minute to realize he was kidding.

He said you don’t have to do a thing. Zilch, zip, nada, efes. Sounds good to me – I had already started soaking it!
