    How do Kohl’s and Macy’s stack up to each other in terms of cost, value, selection, customer service and other important factors?

    And how do the two of them stack up to Bloomingdale’s, Walmart, Target and other department stores, discount stores as well as to local shops?

    At Macy’s you can pretty much return anything and everything within one year of purchase with proof of purchase, regardless of the condition.

    Macy’s return policy is an advantage over other stores

    Online shopping or in store?

    Since I shop online I have found little difference between them. I generally buy the item I want at the best price. The return policy is not the first criteria that I examine before making a purchase.

    Lightbrite – How often do you find yourself returning items (especially more than a month after purchase)? And why would a return be in less than new condition?

    WTP – either online or in a store.

    iacisrmma – Where do you find yourself buying more from?

    We recently bought items from Macy’s then from Kohl’s as they had more items on sale. Overall, probably Amazon.

    My shopping experiences are online, for kids’ clothing, when on sale and when it qualifies for free shipping. I do it to save money. I like Kohls the best – usually have good sales and prices, clothing is good quality. Sometimes I can find the same item for more money at Macys. Bloomies is out of my price range, and I find Macy’s too expensive also. Walmart has great deals- good for things like Pjs and underwear, boys’ polos and shirts, generally their clothing is cheaper but of lower quality. Sometimes I can get good deals at Target, but I find Walmart better. Walmart now has a marketplace like Amazon, which I find annoying because prices can vary and some sellers charge shipping, so I find the larger range in choices not very helpful. Since I order from Israel, usually at the end of a season for the coming year, ship to relatives and then wait for someone who comes to bring them, returning is not really an option. So customer service only comes into play if for some reason an item was not actually delivered. I had that recently with Walmart, they were very nice about it and offered to reship, but the problem was that the item was out of stock, so they refunded my money.

    Despite their names, Macy’s sells more kohl than Kohl’s does.

    Actually, I don’t think either one sells cabbage.

    @Yehidayona……………………….

    kohl may be cabbage to you, but Mrs. CTL and daughters have shown me over the years that ‘kohl’ is eye makeup. Mrs’ CTL uses a ‘kohl’ eye pencil.

    I’ve never seen one at Kohl’s, but the better cosmetic counters at Macy’s (such as Chanel) do have it.
