Happiest: try real timing your post to see if it has actually been thirty seconds. A computer doesn't constantly update so if it overtimes (no more editing allowed by poster) it may still say thirty seconds. Hope this helps

Re. the Rules of the Coffeeroom thread by YW Editor:

Allow me to quote from the above stickied YWN Rules thread:

"We established a set of rules that all posters must follow... 4. Before starting a new topic, do a quick check to see if the topic already exists".

This rule is being completely ignored. Surely you Mods should lead by example and not approve threads before checking if that topic exists!

There are now on the main page 4 threads on the British Royal Wedding. That is no fairy tale story. There is also 2 threads on shlissel challos which can only be the fault of the key editor.

Several repeat threads have been closed after the 1st post with a message directing the OP to the existing thread(s) on the same topic. Please continue to do this as a matter of practice in order to keep a standard of posting and stop the CR becoming random and haphazard.

    Thank You.

I fully agree with shticky. This place has become an awful mess. While you're at it, mods, please don't allow silly or immature comments/threads. It really lowers the level of the CR. Thank you for your work.

I like immature threads. I was actually thinking of filtering out the mature ones. I mean seriously, who cares how much hair you can show from your tichel. It's not like we're women. -95

just keep in the mods comments - i love how they come down appearingly from outer space. ;)
shticky - i was wondering why there's nothing to read - didn't notice that they were all the same topic.

Sorry Zees. I didn't have you in mind. In fact, I didn't have anyone in mind. But the CR has become pretty immature of late. (NOT blaming anyone, okay?)
-95 I couldn't tell whether or not you were serious. I hope the former is true.

    which one is the former?

    Which one is the former

Oh, so you've appeared from outer space to speak to several poster. What about answering my earlier post. I'd love a comment on it please. Thanx.

FYI The former means the earlier/first. So because they wrote "-95 I couldnt tell whether or not you were serious", the former is obviously "whether" as opposed to "not". Unless it was refering to "Sorry Zees. I didnt have you in mind".

Hows that for an immature comment?

the answer to your question, is that we do try, but sometimes they slip through.

Hi and thanx for a wonderful site.

After submitting a post in the coffee room, it can only be edited for about 20 mins, which is especially frustrating at times when there are no mods on and it will not be read and approved sometimes for several hours.

Is it possible to change this so that a post should be editable until read by a mod, irrespective of time elapsed?

    Thank you.

Shticky Guy - I don't understand why you need more than 20 minutes when there are no mods around. The point of being able to edit a post, is for if you click send post to quickly, and then you realize that there are spelling mistakes, or it dosen't read well, or you change your mind... Which all these things take place usualy within 20 minutes.

RB and adorable I was recently up thru the nite and posted something at around 3.30am. After a few minutes I wanted to edit my post but only had internet access about twenty minutes later and when I then attempted to edit it I was unable to. That post was probably only read by a mod many hours later due to the time of nite, but I was still left unable to change it which is a shame and unnecessary.

    MODS is it feasible??

Shticky Guy - So then again, what does your request have anything to do with the fact that there are no mods around.

Real Brisk Baby: Simply that my post was in no mans land, neither anywhere near being approved any time soon nor was it editable by me. Had a mod been on and the post was approved and posted by then then its too bad. But when its just hanging in cyberspace then why not give me the option to edit it? What's so difficult to understand?

So dont post in the middle of the day either because then also there are long modless or mod free periods. Truth is we have no clue when they are on and when not. I posted earlier and my post was thru within one minute!

Anyway, this issue has now been fully discussed. Can we please have a mod's opinion now. Thanx.

MODS - THIS THREAD IS FOR POSTERS TO CONTACT YOU ON. PLEASE REPLY. THANX.

Why when starting a new thread is it not editable at all after pressing 'Send'? I clicked on edit right after beginning one yesterday but it just brought me back to the main coffeeroom. Can this be changed?

I've had it before. After posting a new thread, it cannot be edited, unlike other posts on old threads where you have about 20 mins to edit. I was wondering why this is. Thank you.

    Shtick on a Stick :)

Not that the editor or most mods showed interest in answering my question of why a newly started thread is not editable once posted, but for the sake of mod 20, real brisker and anyone else interested, immediately after submitting a new thread a few days ago (which was obviously at that stage only visible to me), I attempted to write a second post and got the message "This topic has been closed" when in fact it had not yet even been opened. This may help to understand why the new thread is not editable. So can this please be changed?

    Posted 4 months ago #
  38. real-brisker
    Now that's Brisk, Baby!

shticky - That is the message one gets if they get a post box before the mods actually closed the thread, and then they submit the post after the mods close it. An explanaition can be because an unaprooved thread is not really there. And it looks at it just like posting on a closed thread, cause both of them "kiulu" you have no reshus to post on.

That's how the system works. Mods don't have the ability to change that. -95

Do you think it would be possible to make it so a user can remove any of his posts at any time regardless of how long it's been since it was posted.

    Shtick on a Stick :)

RB thats my point exactly. I was saying that I had realized that an unapproved thread is as closed as a closed one and can this be changed? To which 95 replied (thank you) that mods cannot.

Onegoal thats an interesting idea but think how weird threads would look with posts missing then subsequent replies to those posts would not make sense. Instead, be aware that once you send a post you have no further control over it (after the edit period elapses) so - mussar haskel - consider what you write carefully before sending it.

Yes shticky, but I made a comment before (I will not specify) that I shouldn't have, but couldn't get rid of it. If I would have asked the mods to remove it everyone would have realized what I said. So what can I do? I contacted the editor, but to no avail.
