Never mind: I found it. It’s from the North American Jewish Data Bank. The data was for 2008. You think the Jewish population in New York went from 1.6m to 2m in three years?

Speaking of the number of Jews. I noticed that whenever there is an article about Chareidim the same picture with the same 5 chasidim goes up next to the article.
Bloomberg is represented by a picture of himself
Raymond Kelly is represented by a picture of himself
Obama is represented by a picture of himself.
So there is clearly a pattern whereby the pictures represent the actual people who are being discussed in the article.
So I ask you, my fellow CR members:

Derech HaMelech, are you talking about the articles of the Neturei Karta. Because I’ve only counted 5 of them in pictures & videos for the past few years…those guys travel so much that it’s hard to understand when they get time to study Torah….
Cherrybim, adding to what you said, there are also many non-jewish Christians in America that actually claim to be Jews. I’ve actually talked to a few of them; they believe that they are Jewish, even though they have NO Jewish lineage.
Furthermore, 1 of my (orthodox) friends was in a carribean island & he told them that he was Jewish. He said that they were ready to kill him, because they (the islanders of African descent) were the true Jews.

The problem with counting Jews , is how do you count them?
Usually these surveys in “expanded Jewish population” which includes people who are not Halachic jews (ie patrilinial “jews”)
ZD – that’s an interesting point. I wonder who does these surveys and how they do them.
