asdfghjkl, WOW, and we all believed you were in Ireland postin’ at 3 in the mornin’!!!

Optimum is only available in the Northeastern USA!!!

Verizon’s cheapest DSL service is about $20 a month and is fast enough for the average person’s web and email use.

Cable service such as Optimum’s is much faster, but also much more expensive – last time I priced it $40 per month with cable TV, $50 a month with internet only.

For most people I recommend DSL, because you will save $200+ per year, and you don’t really need the extra speed.

If you are getting phone service from Optimum as well, it may be a different story – I never priced their combo service package.

asdfghjkl, you said you got your current sneakers at Modell’s, you miss that bakery that closed on Coney Island Ave., and now you say you use Optimum (and not Verizon, which the original poster compared it to) but you want everyone to think you are in Ireland????

Optimum is only in NY (and surrounding areas.) Its a trademark online service of cablevision, and no other internet company can use it. Unless you hired them to rum a transatlantic cable from America to Ireland…

If you live in a FiOS area, you can’t get DSL and the cost is about the same.

I have used both. Service wise, both were fine (we had FIOS) and equal for the general population.

The problem we had with verizon was the billing system!!! the bills were crazy and EVERY month they were wrong. It took forever each month to correct and each month they said it wouldnt happen the next on. Their computer system for the customer service reps were terrible and they had so much trouble trying to help us. Also, their line items on the bill make absolutely no sense so deciphering where they over charged you is a nightmare.

Finally, my husband got fed up and switched us to Cablevision. We got a similiar deal price wise, plus a $300 gift card to PC richards. We havent had any billing issues.

I also used Cablevision when we were in Brooklyn and had no trouble there either.

asdfghjkl, lol. c’mon admit it! your pulling all our legs; I’ll bet your around the corner from me in flatbush laughing away at your keyboard that you fooled most of us to think your in Ireland!!

    #1030679

    kapusta-

Fios will require a Verizon technician to come down to your house and install equipment outside (so I read).

Cable also requires installation, including drilling thru an outside wall or windowframe, then running an exposed ugly cable thru your house, including thru walls.

DSL uses existing interior and exterior wiring, but requires filters between ann non-DSL appliances (phone, fax, alarm) and the phone line.

Is anyone familiar with the comparative performance between FiOS and cable internet and whether it’s worth the price differential?

What are the prices of each?

    #1030705

About $50 for FiOS and $40 for cable with a comparably claimed entry-level downstream speed.

Sounds like cable offers more value.

I’m wondering if cable and FiOS both actually provide their advertised speed.

Supposedly, you are sharing bandwidth with your neighbors when using cable, so FiOS speeds might be more reliable. Whether that makes enough of a difference to you depends on how you use it.
