moish- I dunno if it's such a smart idea for me to get involved here ;)
re: "i think i'll give you an answer: hormones, brains and stupid rebbeim"-
You're a classic.
I'm surprised I'm the only one that really understood what you meant, without any explanations. I just kept reading that line and nodding my head. Yup- that's the way it goes all right.
So you mean there's hope? The second you turn 20 you'll just pop right back into your old, pre-teenage, self? ;)Posted 6 years ago # -
ames: i wqas trying to make a point that people are so against secular music but that without realizing it they are listening to it themselves but i guess i was also trying to make it seem like im not doing anything wrong

moish, you are laying blame at the feet of others instead of accepting responsibility for your choices. You are not ignorant. You know what's what. People can and do spend their lives blaming others for how they turned out. It's bogus. You control your life, no matter how badly other people may affect you. Only you can decide how to react to what other people say or do. Do you really think that you are the only person who has had a bad experience with a rebbe?
No matter how much of a bad influence he was, no matter how much motivation he gave you to do a 180 on your life, you are still the one who did it. You also blame hormones; are you the only one with hormones? You chose to follow your basest needs and wants instead of battling against them and standing up for what you know is right. That was and is your choice. I say "is" because it is a decision you make every day. Tomorrow you can decide to do a 180 again and if you don't you are deciding to continue what you know you don't want to do.
And don't go back to saying "squeak doesn't like me" again (another teenage cop-out). You know I do. This is what we call "tough love". (:

any1 else wondering why some of the ads are not so yeshivaworldish?
Posted 6 years ago # -
squeak: sorry but that is not true at all...if someone is abused as a kid it will affect them unless they are helped by proffesionals and even then they are many times affected.
the hormones some ppl have it more than others and for someoppl it is easier everyone has thier tests in life just because somone elses test has nothing to do with being religious or not it does not mean that if they had such a test that they would pass it
so basically yes having stupid rebbeim can affect u very much especially when u r smart
Posted 6 years ago # -
teen, let me clarify. You cannot blame others for your decisions or your actions. Abuse can cause serious psychological problems. I do not say that the victim is to blame for those problems. We are talking about two different things.
Posted 6 years ago # -
Why does it still say new by the coffee room?
Posted 6 years ago # -
goody613: to catch your attention to run & ck it out!!!!!!!!!
Posted 6 years ago # -
squeak: so what about cases where ppl go off because of how other jews treated them? (this happens to b one of the reasons i am not to religious anymore)
Posted 6 years ago # -
or bec they never got around to takin it off...i think the video feature was around longer then the cr and it still says new
Posted 6 years ago # -
teen - that's called blaming other people for your decision. You decided to cut back on your observance. The fact that other people gave you a bad taste or did something to turn you off doesn't actually make you go off - it's just an outside factor and you decided how much weight to give it. Your choices are to react by rejecting religion to spite those people, or to continue being religious despite them. Believe me, they won't get any credit for what you do despite them, so don't think that by going off you avoid giving them satisfaction they would get if you didn't.
And, as I said before, it's a new decision every day. So what you decided in the past doesn't affect your ability to decide now (though it might make the decision more difficult to follow through with). My advice is find people you like and avoid the ones you don't (sounds soooo simple, no?).

uames: sorry but i have had a LOT of bad experiences with jews
and stop flatteriong not gonna work :P (although i do seem to be accepting what u r saying much more after reading that lol :P)
Posted 6 years ago # -
ames, by not responding to you I am in no way ignoring you - rather, I read your post and have nothing to add.
Posted 6 years ago # -
now there's a good signature! A BLUE smiley! Good one, ames.
Posted 6 years ago # -
never blamed anyone else. she asked what made me change and i said i would give her an answer to satisfy her. i never actually answered her question. go back and look.
and you have no idea what i've been through so you can't exactly talk. but yes, ultimately it was my decision and.
by the way, you have no idea what a rebbe can do. now imagine three years of that. ninth, tenth and eleventh. shouldn't really blame the second two as much, they didn't do anything directly, but they're definitely incompetent and ill-equipped and should not be teaching high school. maybe bais medrish.

heres a random question
why is a chumrah not considered adding on to a mitzvah?
Posted 6 years ago # -
teen, why is hiddur mitzva not considered adding on? you can't add new things and make up laws, but why not do a mitzva in the best possible way? that's what i think. no idea of i'm on.
Posted 6 years ago # -
moish01: idk i guess that sort of makes sense but basically i guess my question is what is the diffrence?
Posted 6 years ago # -
i guess hiddur mitzva is a more of an individual thing and a chumra is more for the klal? no idea.
Posted 6 years ago # -
i knew my answer was missing something! yeah ames that sounds better. goes to show how much i know.
Posted 6 years ago # -
ames that makes sense but i meant the diffrence between a hiddur mitzva/chumra and adding on to a mitzvah (which is against halacha)

random question i have:
how do i change the time in my gmail email account??? i just can't figure it out, it always has such wacky times that the emails came in!!!!Posted 6 years ago # -
asdf - It thinks you're in Ireland.
Posted 6 years ago # -
I assume the time is based on your computer's time zone setting. Double-click the time at the bottom of your screen and check which time zone you are using. It could be that when you moved from Ireland to Brooklyn I"h that you changed the time instead of the time zone.
Posted 6 years ago # -
asdf: what do u mean the time?
Posted 6 years ago # -
asdfghjkl, too complicated to type. go to "help" in gmail (the top right corner and search for "change time" and hit the first link.
