so was it the attic or a circle?? isn't "המעגל" reference to a circle? & wasn't there something about him sleeping for 70 years?Posted 1 week ago #
moish: so far i think you know the most out of anyone kind enough to answer :)
you know anything about the sleeping thing?Posted 6 years ago # -
yeah i think he fell asleep for 70 years and when he woke up no one believed that he was choni hamagal so he prayed to hashem to take his life. i think that's how he died.
Posted 6 years ago # -
ok thanks.
kapusta: could be, sorry. but i don't think you gave this much information last time.
so is there a point to that story?

Choni Hamagel:
not really so clear when he lived, some say lived about 200 years before Churban Bais Shayni / was a contemporary (in years) to R' Shimon ben Shetach.
He was known as a "miracle worker", and these two stories are the most famous ones about him: (both the stories that were mentioned above)
1. the story of no rain in (i think) Yerushalayim, made a circle, davened to Hahsem that he won't leave the circel until it rains. It rained lightly- he told davened for rain to fill the wells, it then rained very hard, and he davened for the rain that was to harsh to turn into the rain they needed to nourish the crops, not destroy them, it then rain "good" rain... the really short version... (it was here that R' Shimon ben Shetach wanted to put him in cherem)
2. He saw a man planting a tree, and asked him how long it will take to produce fruit, the man replied 70 years. Choni Hamaagal then asked, do you know you're going to live another 70 years? and the man replied, just as my ancestors planted for me, so i will plant for my children. He fell asleep, woke up 70 years later, and saw a man by the tree and asked him if he planted it and he said, I'm the grandson. He went into the bais medrash and heard them say "In the times of Choni HAmaagel..." He went into his house and asked if C"H son was still alive, they said no, but his grandson is... sof kol sof he was so distressed that he died.
Although the there really is another description of how he died.Really, if one wants to really understand this inyan, it has to be learned inside, with depth and obviously this inyan goes much deeper than what meets the eye. Part of it i believe is discussed as a mashal, the sleeping, galus, carob tree...
Time to learn!Posted 6 years ago # -

hey all in the CR! i would like to know your take on this.
what would you do if presented with a serious dilemma but are not good at presenting so you can't exactly talk with anyone(being that you don't know how to present the problem)?
and a total side note: is cracking your knuckles really bad for you or is it just annoying so people say so?
Posted 6 years ago # -
does anybody know anything about providence RI? 'cause if you do i would like to know where i can find info about finding a part-time/full time job there.

yossi z: i would take the time to organize my thoughts and figure out what i want to say before i go to someone. or write an email or note, so i could look it over before they see it.
Posted 6 years ago # -
aob: in other words you are suggesting to present it to oneself until you feel you are presenting the issue that you really want to present?
Posted 6 years ago # -
yossi z: yeah, i guess

Posted 6 years ago # -
unfolded, because then it lasts longer.
Posted 6 years ago # -
Folded soemtimes, because I am greedy, and unfolded if it is not too hot, so the cheese is not sliding off...
Posted 6 years ago # -
yossi z.: 1)nope,sorry i don't know anything about Providence RI!
2) about the dilemma question, i'm a little foggy about what your talking about there! sorry buddy, guess i'm of no help! ;(Posted 6 years ago # -
what about cracking knuckles? (aob answered the dilemma question) bad for you or just annoying? (sorry your highnez about the interuption)
Posted 6 years ago # -
yossi z.: i've heard it can cause arthritis when old! don't know if it's just a myth though!
Posted 6 years ago # -
kapusta, like ames says, with a fork and knife ONLY. I'm very proper when it comes to these things!
Yossi, I believe it is a myth that they will cause your fingers to shake when you get old. I was discussing it with someone recently and she was freaking out (that I crack my knuckles). She kept on saying 'what, you're gonna do it on a date? what's the boy gonna think?' blah blah blah. I finally realized how really unclassy it looks (and sounds) so I decided to stop. It was really hard in the beginning but now, I'm so used to it. I'm so happy I stopped!

Sure am, kapusta! And I never impose myself on my friends. If they want, they're more than welcome to eat with their hands (and they do! - in my presence, I mean) I guess I'm just a bit of a neat/clean freak. Not that I mind. Better that then...

Try #2:
Since I'm not allowed to disclose the location where I will be eating pizza tonight, I suggest you go around to the pizza stores in BP tonight (supper time) till you find one pretty girl eating her pizza with a fork and knife! Then come over and introduce yourself! See ya!Posted 6 years ago # -
jax, are you always this cheerful & enthusiastic in real life? or you make a special effort for us in the cr?
Posted 6 years ago # -
when you crack your knuckles you are releasing nitrous oxide that is in your joints, hence the sound. i know there is the thought out there that it may cause athritis but i dont believe there is any basis for that.

kay this is like totally random but it fits with the tags- why do singers wanttheir music to be fresh and different? I totally comprehend why they don't want the same old niggun but to take goyish tunes and put jewish lyrics with it or worse visa versa, thats like totally sad and sinking so low!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi kapusta
thanks for the invite. if i may ask, what does "kapusta" mean? is this english/hebrew/yiddish/yinglish?Posted 6 years ago # -
kapusta: i take it the.nurse was never a lurker, if she/he didn't know what kapusta means! we talk about kapusta like every day/night! ;)
Posted 6 years ago # -
a hiccup usually happens when you have a sudden rush of air thats breathed in. this irritates your diaphragm (the large muscle at the bottom of your rib cage that helps you breathe) and it kindve spasms, which causes your vocal cords to quickly close and that causes the sound.
glad to be of help :)Posted 6 years ago # -
yoyo: sorry i don't really know, but btw there's a whole topic to do with jewish music & threads about it.
