    Very often, posters are searching for old CR threads or topics.

    These can easily be found (as can this one and similar ones saying the same thing) at the following URL

    http://j82.us/searchyw.php

    Try it. Its really great. But save it to your favorites otherwise you wont be able to search for it when you need it!!

    New posts on previously discussed topics keep resurfacing again and again. If you want to discuss something, first check if there’s already a thread on it!

    MODS HOW ABOUT PUTTING THE URL AS A STICKY AT THE TOP OF THE CR???

    What does sticky mean?

    I used to think it meant controversial as in that’s a sticky subject.It means permanent,the blue ones…

    I like poppa_bar_abba’s way much better. Allow me to quote:

    The easiest way is to go the dvar torah thread which is stickied, and find a post by “chofetz chaim”. If you click on his name, it brings you to a search page.

    I know that is odd. But you do some odd things also.

    This was the funniest thing I have ever seen in the CR. I do it all the time now.

    Yes a sticky means that the topic will stay permanently at the top of the cr board like the tehillim, divrei torah and Rules threads.

    This has been requested before several times , but the mods have been so far unable or unwilling to listen to the democratic will of the posters.

    I’m trying to organise a million man march and rally on this, and hope someone starts a new thread called the YWN crisis and shiduchim (which is solely to discuss this YWN dictatorship crisis, and only lists shidduchim to get ppl to open the thread…) Deja vous??

    Seriously, there are too many threads on the same topic in the cr for example on ice cream, yiddish, purim costumes, mens threads, new/old/returning members, rhyming or poetry, identities, names, dates/shidduchim/shidduch jokes/walking girl to door/holding car door for date/funny shidduch stories etc etc.

    So either the same things are being repeated over again which is just pointless and boring, or if they’re new ideas/thoughts, isnt it much better to post them on the old thread???

    Derech Hamelech: I like poppa_bar_abba’s way much better…

    please try both before you decide which you prefer. They are the same! I’ve simply given you a link to chofetz chaim’s search page!

    umm shticky guy, you shouldve practiced what you preach! THIS is the second or third thread with the almost exact title!

    btw, maybe it should be called a shticky thread??

    I cant believe it! My idea has been listened to and my thread is now on the top of the cr! I’m famous!

    SO SHTICKY IS NOW A STICKY!

    I did it purely for the good of the coffeeroom and hope that many of you will now have a better coffeeroom experience because of it.

    I know how frustrating it is not to be able to find a topic and I sometimes posted in on a topic only so that I should be able to find the thread in the future by clicking on my posting history!

    Well I wont be turning up at the million man march, so the remaining nine hundred and ninety nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine of you will have to march alone!

    Shlishi: I know that this has been posted before. Did you read my OP where I wrote that there are similar threads saying the same thing? Its not my link.

    My whole point was that too many posters either didnt know about this search or knew but couldnt find it! The old search at the top of the page is for the entire YWN and not limited to the CR.

    So i opened a thread where I posted the URL in the OP and asked for it to be made a sticky letovas hatzibur.

    Shlishi; I’ll give you another good example of overthreading of the same topic.

    On the thread ‘cholent’ you’ll notice it was closed by the Key Master Y. W. Editor after 30 posts. Why? Well, see below…

    Thanks Shticky for this thread. I don’t use it often, but I just did and it was great and convenient!

    I still can’t figure out why the CR doesn’t come with a search box, but at least this is close!

    Smartcookie you are very welcome. I actually use the link often and find it amazing. Besides for sefer mishna berura and shemiras halashon, its the thing I use most in the name of the chofetz chaim 🙂

    Mazel Tov to Shticky Guy on his 500th approved post!

    I have trouble with the search as I don’t understand how to read the results so I can know which one it is that I want.

    I think we need to draw attention to this thread again as there is now an influx of subtitle threads (I saw at least three at once on the main list), welcome to the cr threads (though kudos to whoever it was that brought the original back up)

    Yossi z I cant see what you find difficult. Searching a word or phrase will bring up several threads. Look thru them until you find the one you want.

    Bina Thank you! It was a suprise to me too! Hopefully the mods can add the number of posts as a feature to everyone’s history page.

    MODS You must have on your system how many approved posts we all have. Is is possible to put this information on our profile page? It would be great and very interesting to be able to see how many posts we have by clicking on our username. THANK YOU!

    Is there such a thing as CR notifications to let you know when a thread that you posted on, has a new post?

    Or, must you click on your username and scroll down the list seeing which ones have recent posts?

    Shticky: the times when I searched for a thread I would put in a phrase or two (depending on what I was looking for) and I couldn’t tell from the results which thread it was. Then again it may just be from my ignorance how to read computer talk (yet I can read and fully understand UPS labels. Go figure)

    😀 Zuberman! 😀

    Can i make a simple suggestion? Maybe just allow us to read through the older pages via a numbers on the bottom of the coffee room page, like in google. (does it have to do with brandwith costs? Don’t be cheap on us here! At least allow 3 or 4 pages!)

    All these are great suggestions but are not things that can just be “added” by the mods. These require changes to the web site by Duvys which you need to speak to The Editor about. This last post about having a link to “page 2” would actually be very useful. It exists on the main page where you can click to see older posts but the CR does not have this feature yet.

    Actually quark2’s suggestion is a standard (and even default) feature of bbPress, the forum software the CR uses. I’m not sure why the CR never had that; it is a basic, and needed, function.

    Yes my comment wasn’t directed at the mods, it was directed at the owner/manager of the website.

    How do you contact the editor?

    The email addresses you seek can be found in the opening post of the following thread, (which incidentally I found thru this thread’s search!)

    The feature you are looking for may exist, it just needs to be entered on the address bar instead of having a convenient clickable link.

    Please try the following:

    http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/page/2

    http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/page/3

    http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/page/4

    http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/page/10

    etc…

    ICOT: Thanks. Did you find that by giving it a shot to see if it would work?

    Like I said, a clickable link to the older pages should be easily added to the CR with, probably, a very simple config file change of a simple bbPress setting from a “0” to a “1”.

    #938216

    Pac-Man-

    It’s my pleasure.

    Did you find that by giving it a shot to see if it would work?

    Yes. That’s how the URL changes when you go to any page besides the first on a thread, so I gave it a shot here, not expecting it to work.

    Surprise! It worked.

    I’ll take your word for it since I don’t know bbPress at all.

    I did notice books on bbPress in my version of candy stores (Barnes and Noble, Borders), if anyone is interested in learning how to work with it.

    ==========================

    Here’s a guessing game:

    How many pages of threads do you think the CR contains?

    Click ?HERE? to find out what the last page is.

    (Disclaimer – although the link above pointed to the last page on June 15, 2011 at 1:00 AM, it’s sure to change pretty soon as new threads are added)

    I’ve been using this method for those times when the last page would be just an input box without seeing the preceding message from the previous page

    ?? ?????? ???? ????

    & a mod gave a similar idea…

    #938222

    real-brisker-

    Yes.

    100 ==> Page found

    300 ==> Page not found

    150 ==> Page not found

    125 ==> Page found

    137 ==> Page found

    140 ==> Page not found

    138 ==> Page not found

    Therefore, 137 is the last page.

    I dont think there is one. What makes you so sure that there is? Have you ever posted on it? Then look thru your posting history to check the spelling. It was probably spelled wrong. Anyway look on the bright side… There’s only 149 pages of threads to look thru if you cant find it ☺

    I already tried a quick sequential search; either I missed it or it’s been deleted. And thanks for your smiley face cuz I wasn’t smiling 🙂

    If you click on the above limerick link that you’ve mentioned, you’ll see that the haiku thread is also referenced.

    SO WHERE IN THE WORLD IS THE HAIKU THREAD?

    Take a look at ==>this<==.

    Mod-80: about a year and a half ago a convo between me and Dr. P (about 2 posts each) was deleted from the Riddle Thread. It was a joke that you thought was serious (and personal).

    It wasn’t “The Riddle Thread…” nor has it been deleted.

    So much for your eidetic memory.

    That was 18 months later. This was 9 months later. The photographic memory maintains its vividness for a year. Afterwards the minute details start to fade.
