some seminaries already sent them out, for example Michlalah. Most seminaries (I think all the B.Y. ones) are sending theirs out on February 24.

sorry cy fan, your acceptance letter was retracted, because you have internet.

In its place, you'll be getting an invitation from Harvard or Priceton.

My niece who is the age of being in seminary decided to be one of the first to forgo seminary. She and a friend are currently working in a Moisad being mentors and running school youth programs for a fine institution. The whole seminary acceptance idea has become mentally and financially exhausting. Adding up the costs of going to Eretz Yisroel includes: TUITION, Airfare
(2 tickets) beginning of school year and coming home Pesach, cell phones, taxi bus and food money, spending money etc. This all adds up to about $20,000 plus for barely 10 months (more like 8 and half) withPesach vacation and only half of June month for school. Parents are being choked by this. I don't want to sound old fashioned...but going back 25-30 years ago the whole concept of seminary in Eretz Yisroel was not on the table. Girls just continued on to a local Seminary and Boruch Hashem if you look around these girls have raised fine Mishpochas and were none the worse for "not having had the Israel experience". After spending over $20,000 on Seminary...just a year later the girls are entering Shidduchim and making it even harder for the parents to now come up with thousands more dollars to make a wedding.
We are so stuck in the system and trying to keep up with the
Joneses(Cohens) and worried what would someone else think...that we are creating financial hardships for Parents. Kudos to my niece for daring to make it easier for her parents and not going to expensive Seminary while choosing to still be in a Chinuch environment and helping a Moisad enrich their students and being involved in Youth Leadership while also making sure to learn in the evenings and attend shiurim.

actually, my parents are only paying airfare... either i get scholarships, or i don't go (c"v!) zehu... and my going has NOTHING to do with keeping up with anybody:) but shkoyich to your niece. if that worked for her, then i'm really happy for her! :)

CR Queen - “Best of luck. Avoid roasted cabbage, don’t eat earwax, and look on the bright side of life!”

I'm past seminary so maybe I'm not really qualified for this thread but I'm not gonna let that stop me. ;)

1.I know of one class in a certain school (not sure if its every year or only one class) that decided amongst themselves not to discuss seminary or getting accepted (among classmates/friends) for 2 days after getting letters. Believe it or not, it really helps. And just because you got in to your "choice" sem doesn't mean the person you are asking did. If you are in a position to initiate something like this, know you will very likely be saving someone, somewhere, a lot of heartache. Even if only amongst your friends, its a big help.

    2. Its a big deal now but in 10 years it probably won't make a difference. More importantly, you will end up in the place which you will be the best for, and which will be the best for you. A certain well known rav said his daughter applied to her first choice sem but didn't get in. He had connections in the school and tried from every angle but couldn't get anywhere. She went to a different sem where she ended up helping someone who needed it.

Looking forward to hearing good news! Hatzlacha!

kapusta- ya my school has a rule that you are not allowed to say where u got accepted to for 2 weeks after the letters come so the girls who didn't get accepted anywhere, or not in their choice sem. have some time to do something about it. and bygirl93- ya that'd be cute good luck! did u have ur interview yet?

    kapusta,
i wish my class had that rule, its so sad to see the faces of those girls who didnt get accepted to the seminary they applied. even if they didnt tell any one yet you can see it on their faces. later on when they said that that they didnt get accepted i knew i was right. it was hard for them to stay happy for those that did get accepted to their same seminary but they did anyways because it was their friend and they were happy for them.

Good luck to everyone else, and wherever you get accepted know that it was meant to be, even if you dont know that yet.
see you next year in eretz yisrael!

Popcorn- I give a lot of credit to your niece and her classmates for realizing that going to seminary in Israel is not the end all / be all to life.
