    As some may have read in the secular Israeli media, an Israeli singer/songwriter won the Eurovision Competition this past weekend, which is the most prestigious goiyeshe music award in the EU countries. The outcome was predictable with left wing Irish politicians again ramping up its anti-Israel, anti-Semitic rants, demands for boycotts and divestment etc. The worst came from the Lord Mayor of Dublin, a position once occupied by a Yid. Yet some major Israeli firms and US. firms with major Jewish ownership/control have big investments in Ireland. When do we stop feeding the beast that would devour us?

    Who cares about a dispute between Ireland and the Zionists. Let them battle it out; nothing to do with Yidden, especially as this involves pritzus.

    The IRA supported and collobarated with the Nazi’s and later on the IRA helped train and support the PLO terrorists. In fact the idea of a Suicide Bomber comes from the IRA

    Politically, don’t you think that it’s obviously hypocritical to denounce the BDS movement and then go and announce your own divestment?

    Mentsch1….you have a valid point but at the same time, not clear how to counter this blatant anti-Semitism masked as “anti-Zionism” without pushing back forcefully where it hurts them (jobs, Euros etc.)

    Joey….you may choose as you typically do to view the world through your tunnel vision with a tzinius and kol isha focus and lose sight of the much larger trend in the EU being led by Ireland’s leftists to marginalize and delegitimize EY in the name of “Palestinian suffering”. Most Yidden do care even if this is minor PR issue that serves to feed a much more critical narrative. Also, the competition is in EY next year and I’m certain there will be efforts to shift to another country to “punish” EY, expecially after today’s violence on the Gaza border with dozens killed and hundreds injured (who will be characterized as “martyrs”}

    Mentsch,

    That is the way of the world (not hypocritical at all)

    If I find that you are boycotting something for no legitimate reason I can do the same to you

    It isn’t just the BDS people who don’t want Eurovision in EY next year. A lot of frum people in EY itself don’t want it, because it really is pritzus, maybe not by non-Jews but definitely by us. I was very sad to see that a bas Yisroel was the winner and was celebrating that she won a contest that, if she were really aware of her own worth as a Jewish daughter, she would never have entered.

    The world may be hypocritical.
    But
    Netanyahu has always argued that divestment is a form of terrorism. It would look really bad, and give legitimacy to the BDS movement if he embraced the same tactic.
    Which is why he would never publicly take that step.
    What he does behind closed doors, and the pressure he puts on business owners is a different story. But I suspect he would never do it in case it became public.

    This argument comes up all the time about a range of issues and countries. Many of our grandparents (and even our generation) refused to buy German cars. People I know refuse to travel to Poland and Ukraine and “ give those anti semites my money” . I don’t believe there is a right or wrong answer, it’s a degree of sensitivity.
    One of the reasons the frum velt loves Nicky Haley is bc she never ceases to point out the emes and hypocrisy. We lose the high ground if we similarly become hypocritical.
    As the European Muslim population grows so will European anti Semitism. A few Jews not buying products won’t change anything.
