Last Shabbos the guy behind me was snoring so loudly that I couldn’t hear any of the mi shebeirachs.

What’s the point of mentioning your friends in a mi shebeirach if your friends can’t even hear it?!

At least sleeping people usually don’t talk.

Do you mean “snoring loudly: or “schnuring loudly” during the mi’ shebarachs….the latter is especially inappropriate since there are many rabbonim holding that fundraising is one of the subsets of the 39 malachos that are assur on shabbosi

If there’s no sleeping allowed in shul, what’s the point of the Rabbi’s drasha?

    To G’chuchum
Probably not since its considered a breach of protocol to talk during the l’chaims during the KK…staying awake is not normally a problem at our shul since the gabbai sheini typically comes in to the KK sessions in the small beis medrash to drag the mispallalim back to the shul for muaf

Maybe if the baal koreh wasn’t so slow and davening wasn’t so shlepped out then he wouldn’t sleep.

Someone should start a thread about that.

He should be the baal korei.

If he doesn’t want to invest the time in being the baal koreh, you might consider having him appointed the gabbai shlishi who stands on the bimah and does the me sh’berachs during the kriah….its known to be difficult to do a me sh’berach (including getting the Hebrew names straight from those with aliyos) while in the horizontal position and/or vertical but snoring

Maybe this person is tired and his body needs to sleep?

How many people want to fall asleep in public in such a way whe others would feel justified to make fun of him?

… our bodies don’t give us the choice to not sleep… chronic lack of sleep is linked to a plethora of illness.. we need sleep to repair our cells and process information…

Why do those who defy their body’s need for sleep with mega caffeine deserve praise, when the busy worker, father, and husband is criticized for being human?

And yes…. I know that CTLAWYER and generations before him made do on like 4 hours of sleep… but his story is not evidence to say that it’s a healthy way to live, especially not for the majority of humans…

In my humble opinion…. It’s not fair to judge someone for being tired and falling asleep unintentionally…

Wait… Am I taking a silly thread seriously here? Maybe everyone knows what I just said and this thread was just playing… Oops. Thank you.

tell him to stand during leining. he wont snore. he might fall down, but the one time crash is probably better than constant snoring.

So they get a bracha? What’s wrong with making sure they get a bracha even if they don’t know about it. It’s like giving tzedaka anonymously instead of with lots of fanfare.
