The true reality is, that as much as Shabbos is certainly Yom Menucha, but when people have relatives out of walking distance and in other cities, and the relatives don’t always have enough sleeping space etc., it is a bonafide need to have a non-working yet “Mutor Melocho” day to catch up on family visits, as well as house chores.

Whereas to a limited extent, Chol haMoed covers for family visits, once every 6 months is too long between visits for close relatives, and of-course Chol haMoed is not the time for house chores.

If there’s gonna be a second “off-day” in Israel, it only makes sense that it be Friday. Sunday only makes sense if you’re Christian. Jews have a special day of Erev Shabbos when they have much to prepare. And, besides, it is already only a half day.

As a man, I would rather have Sunday as an off day instead of Friday. If Friday is an off day, then I have to help for Shabbos. What kind of off day is that? But if Sunday is an off day, then someone will get our home ready for Shabbos (thank G-d for wives!) and I get an off day to do fun stuff with the family that I wouldn’t be able to do on Shabbos.

That sounds like another good reason for Friday to be the second off-day. Besides, Friday will automatically be a half-day. Adding Sunday would make it a 4 and a half day workweek, which is untenable.

Simcha, you must have great shelom bayit. BTW, there are also erev Shabbat kollelim for baalei battim.

Speaking as someone who lives in Israel, a normal work week here is Sunday – Thursday (some people do work on Friday of course, but not all).

Having Sunday off would be nice, but it would just shift my life around so I would be doing the work on a different day. And in winter rushing to get home for Shabbat.

There was a proposal floating around a while ago to have Rosh Hodesh off when it fell on a weekday. I don’t think it really got very far 🙁

I definitely want Sunday off! Being able to go on day trips for a WHOLE day instead of having to be back before shabbos would be amazing. I’ve been working Sun-Thu for 4 years now and I really miss working Mon-Fri (which I did for a while in Israel, supporting customers in chu”l – right now, I do exactly the opposite).

I think Sunday AND Monday should be days off. It would be great for overnight trips!
