..for those continuing on with the Daf

    fakert. This is much easier.

    1. We’ve learned it before in yeshiva.

    2. There are less words on each page.

    3. The concepts are familiar. Everyone knows what yibum is and tzaras ervah is, and who the arayos are. I certainly didn’t know where the mizbeach goes relative to the little roommy things (yoma).

So like for example, today’s daf took about 3 minutes.

    And that included:

Remembering that a niddah falls to yibum because it isn’t domeh to an achos isha, i nami because darchei noam.

Wondering why tosfos didn’t ask about a yevama who falls on yom kippur and according to rabi akiva.

Trying to remember whether a chayvei lav falls to yibum according to rabi akiva.

Remembering there’s a tosfos on 9a that has a teima about it, and looking it up and confirming that chayvei lavin don’t fall.

In those three minutes, popa, did you figure out why ??”? had to say that ????? was from a second marriage, instead of the ??? marrying his niece?

    I don’t do rashi.

Because your brother had kids then–your wife. But maybe your wife is dead and now the brother has no kids left?

Ok, pretty good answer. I suppose you can say it was obvious to tosfos that yom kippur is not domeh to achos isha, but nidda was less obvious.

    Right. That was my kashya.

I’m sure there’s a note about it in my old gemara. I’m sure my old gemara exists somewhere.

i think maharams kasha. reb akiva eiger says somewhere that rashi held chomoso after his wife dies (which in your case it has to be or else theres no yibum in first place) isnt a chiyuv karais just arur shochev im chosanto and hes not patur. based on gemara in sanhedrin i think.

There’s a teshuvas Rivash on it, IIRC.

It’s on something called Just one shaitel. The Yevamos song.

And Yoili lebowitz had it as “ich bin mine eigene zeide”. Translation: I’m my own grandfather….

The yom kippur kushya doesn’t make the slightest bit of sense because A) Tosfos is asking on the mishnah, which is not like r’ akiva and beis) The mishnah gives a number “15” and therefore we cannot say in hachi nami, also a niddah. But according to r’ akiva it could be takkeh be like that.

    That’s a good answer also.

But tos should still ask the question later in the mesechta where we talk about like a tzaras sotah, etc.

what does tzaras sotah have to do with anything???? Issur Sotah never goes away, unlike niddah and yom kippur.

If you meant to say, “tosfos should have asked on 9a when the gemara brings r’ akiva,” that’s slightly shver, but I would assume tosfos doesn’t have to, once they answered niddah on the mishnah.

I just saw your response for the first time, LF.

(I never heard that album, only the first one.)

Presumably, both were based on the same secular song,

    namely, “I’m My Own Grandpa.”
