    Nice demo.
    Your svoro for what's causing the extra spaces "Jax" describes is likely correct.
    The second closing backtick is necessary - if I remember correctly, omitting it results in the leading backtick displaying in the message and the text not being formatted.

    ICOT: thank you for the board tip! it worked yay! my question was now when i copy & paste the letters out of the USED LETTERS box, & put them in the SECRET WORD box, how do i do that with out messing the board!? so i trying out here to see......

    on box #2-i copy & pasted it from box #1, deleted the letters,then moved the board like it shifted when aussie did experiment #2 of his!

    It looks like you're getting there.
    A few points:
    1) The <a> tag is an anchor, but the word "anchor" shouldn't be spelled out.
    2) The period is not needed by the closing backtick.
    3) The period is only needed after the first backtick if your art doesn't begin in the left-most position on the line (to prevent the first line from sliding all the way to the left). Since your boxes begin in the left-most position, no period is needed.
    4) Persistence pays off. If at first you don't succeed, etc, etc.

    You're 99% of the way there.
    The only thing you're missing is a backtick before and a backtick after your art:

    The before-and-after backticks force a fixed-width font, which will line up your boxes properly.

    I see what you're doing wrong.
    You're putting the backtick before the first line (correct) and after the first line (incorrect).
    Instead put if before the first line, and after the last line.
