    Twins? Mazal Tov!!!

Lately this has been a familiar phrase as twins seem to have become more common. Of course everything is min shamayim and we cannot control anything. Looking at it from a gashmiyisdig point of view there is rumor going around that some natural milk enhancers may be the cause. Did anyone hear of this? What is your opinion?

With a number of twins in my extended family I have to say that yes, there are more twins than ever. But I also have to say that percentage-wise I really don't think so. My children have way more first, to say nothing of second, cousins than the average family had when I was growing up. Hence the fact that there are way more twins among them does sound somewhat reasonable.

Also, nowadays maternal, fetal, and infant healthcare are such that more are born, alive, and well, than ever before.

Another cause for the increase in multiples is the vast number of women undergoing fertility treatments - at any age the chance of multiples is way higher when assisted than natural.

I don't know anything about that rumour but they say that before Mashiach comes, all neshamos must come down, that's why there are so many multiple births these days as Moshiach is on our doorstep. Don't know if that is true and I have no sources but that's what many people told me when we had the twins.

There are many couples that need medical help to have children. Bonei Olam now has over 3,000 babies that they've helped with. Fertility treatments have a higher chance of multiples being born. Maybe that's why there are more twins.

I have. I believe it may have some truth in it. It's not only the milk but meat too. Things today are full of hormones (which I guess answers your question).

This is true that treatments did have a big effect but what about all those that didn't get any medical help and have no multiple history in their family. Many families that never had any twins get a surprise gift - twins.
