I need some advice of what to do please.
So basicly, my earlobe got infected because I wore fake earings. I know…gross. I knew my earlobes would get infected if I wore the fake earings for a long time but the infection usually goes away quick. I just wear real gold earings to heal my earlobes and the infection goes away quickly. But now its already been almost a month and it’s not getting any better. I tried cleaning the gold earing and wearing them as much as possible but its not working. To make things even stranger I started getting an “eye rash” on my eye lids. It just gets red and itchy. I was wondering if it had anything to do with my ears. I know this sounds really wierd but im starting to get worried.
Any advice??!
If you have an infection for almost a month why haven’t you gone to a doctor? You probably need an antibiotic to clear it up. Whether ointment or oral at this point. It is probably NOT advisable to be wearing any earrings at all if the infection has not cleared up after a week or two, you are only exacerbating the problem and if you are not sanitizing the earrings you can possibly infect the other ear as well.
As far as your eye is concerned, if you touch any infection and then rub your eyes, it could be possible that you are introducing the virus or bacteria of the infection to your eyes.
See a Doc ASAP. Aries is right about the infection spreading.
try hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, or bacitracin ointment (over the counter). also polysporin oint, though i prefer bacitracin, as this is probably a staph infection. dont use neosporin as it has a signicicant allergic reaction rate.
Mod -80 -Sorry, this time I agree with yungerman1. Really I would agree with you if it was a clear cut infection. But she needs to be seen because I’m not sure what’s going on. It could be something like a nickle allergy which would be treated differently.

I had the problem when I was younger. I wore fake earrings that were absolutely gorgeous( I couldn’t resist!) and I had no idea I was allergic to fake earrings. So I put them on and a couple days later, I noticed that my ears were getting infected. So I took off my earrings and I didn’t wear earrings for about 2 months or so. My ears got better, but by then My ears had closed up. If you don’t want your ears to get closed up, my advice to you would be, DON’T WEAR EARRINGS!!!
What the blazes are fake earings?
fake earing are really 3 dimensional stickers that stick to your earlobe and look just like real earings. my aynaklach used to use them before they got their ears pierced.

they are not gold or silver or white gold. they are cheap metal and can give you a really bad infection

ILC, it is up to you to choose for yourself but since Yom Tov is upon us why would you want to take the chance of having to deal with a raging infection in your ears and eyes. Would it not make more sense to see a doctor and deal with it immediately instead of trying to treat it yourself and hope for the best? It still might get worse and you still might have to see a doctor. We are coming up on 3 day Yom Tov, hours of davening. Do you really want to walk into that with itchy and infected eyes and fluid oozing out of your earlobes? You are not dealing with an infection that started a week ago, you said it is going on for about a month. That is not something that should be handled on your own.
i love coffe: For the ear lobe try some bacitracin cream and don’t wear those earrings again. Regarding the “eye rash” I can almost bet that its from your eyeliner. Do you wear liquid eyeliner?
stick polysporin on a needle or end of a earring and insert. Put a glob on the outside too. Then always massage around the whole ear daily, to add blood flow. You may have noticed the whole earing hurts or tingles at this time.
My daughter gets this infection quite often, clean with alcohol and skip the bacitracin and go for the BACTROBAN Ointment. But go to a dr too, cuz u may need oral antiobiotics…
Supermommy – How do you know it’s an infection -Did the PCP look at it? Or do you self-prescribe and decided it needs Bactroban and just tell the PCP to give it to you over the phone?

Allergies/dermatitis are treated differently than infections.
Go get a diagnosis!
I agree with Always Runs with scissors fast- Polysporin worked really well for me when I had earing issues. I just kept putting it on my earlobe and on the real earings for a while. Alcohol just burned.

An allergy to something that touches your skin can cause “contact dermatitis”. An infection is caused by micro-organisms invading the area. This can be viruses, bacteria, fungi or other organisms. So no, an allergy to nickle doesn’t make the area infected. And it is possible to have one on top of the other. This is usually called a secondary bacterial infection. But it can work the other way around, eg.- the area is infected and you put on an antibiotic cream/ointment – you can have an allergic reaction to the stuff that is supposed to make the infection better. A medical professional with a trained eye can usually tell the difference. If the professional is in doubt, they can do a gram stain and/or a culture and sensitivity to look for bacteria.
Bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics, whether topical or oral. Allergic Dermatitis is treated with antihistamines, astringents (Eg. Domeboro solution) and steroids(either oral or topical).
This is why I said to go see you PCP for diagnosis and treatment.
Go to a DR. Infections are never a good sign, especially those that last more than 7 days.
My wife was advised by her DR to clean the posts on her earrings with rubbing alcohol every 4-6 weeks, since you never know what has built up there over time. Are you always sure to touch your ear lobes with clean hands, even if you are wearing “real” jewelry? It was also suggested that every so often she dip the posts into bacitracin or neosporin before putting her earring back on since it could never hurt and you never know what might just be inside that opening.
A soothing natural remedy is to freeze wet green tea bags and use them as a compress on the infected area. coat your fake earrings with clear polish before using.

Your suggestion sounds very refreshing, like laying on some tropical beach somwhere, but alas it would never work. You wrote infection, no tea bag will get rid of infection, but it might help if it’s dermatitis.
Is this still be discussed? I thought by now for sure there would have been a diagnosis from the Doctor as well as a plan or prescription for a solution.
Ask the Dr. to have a look at it. Perhaps it is cellulitis. If it is, nothing short of an antibiotic will clear it. You don’t want c”v that it should spread.
