im getting a filtered internet and dont know which one to use. i want gmail, yw, matzav, maybe some shopping, anyone know?

Brita. You really want to filter the Net and get rid of all the schmutz, you should throw your computer into a bucket of filtered water and leave it there for a day or so!

I don’t have experience with other filters; I have been using the Jnet for the past few years. I currently have level 5 filtering with shopping (if I recall correctly, regular level 5 doesn’t let you into websites such as Amazon). If you only want specific websites and nothing else, consider the whitepages system, also offered by the Jnet, in which you only get the websites you specify – if I understand correctly.

K9 is good, but plenty of bad things are accessible when it’s in the default mode. I’m constantly adding things to my “always block” list.

We have jnet and are happy with them. There may be other filters out there that are good, but there is a definite advantage to having the filtering done by a company with a frum perspective. Their mehadrin (real-time) feature is also really nice. Even if a site falls through the cracks and is not blocked, the images will be filtered in real time as the page loads.
I also have jnet. The problem is I cant see any images from YW pictures. A small price to pay. (besides the fee, that is)
ZeesKite, A very small price to pay indeed. It’s refreshing when you see someone not whining about what they have to give up for yiddishkeit. Rather that they appreciate that it’s a small price for the great return they are getting.
i have k9 and like it a lot its great and free. we used to have pure sight (which is what Phil Rosenthal suggested) but it was too restricting.
We have K9 and I think its okay. I never got blocked from anything I needed but was never exposed to things I shouldn’t see (such as the ads on the side of websites). Its free and easy to install but also VERY easy to bypass the password. If you know there is a danger of someone who is tech-savy in your home, DON’T get it. I know someone who had it in their home and someone wanted to access a video of Kate and William that was blocked and did very easily (and this person isn’t a super tech-savy teen).

Don’t look at treff sites. It is 100% effective, costs nothing, and doesn’t affect the functioning of the computer.

I was going to get a blackberry but I wasn’t aware of any filtering system for it on BIS so I didn’t. I checked your site again and still didnt find anything. Could you (or anybody else) post a link to blackberry filters please?

There is one thing that I had with K9, we installed it in our office computers, it made the entire network operate extremly slow. Never was able to figure out why it happened with K9.

we use a filter called convenant eyes which is amazing. u can receive a report of what everyones been up to and therefore ensure noones bypasing the filter. nowadays its really quite simple to bypass if u know what ur doing and its not so complicated to learn this stuff.
The best internet filter is the one between your ears.

I agree 1000% with nitpicker and have been debating blocking YWN both because of the pictures of reshaim who we shouldn’t be looking at as well as the ability to add comments to the news stories (and things gedolim say) which just allows apikorsus and kefira to be posted by various readers…

I do agree that the modding staff is way too lax on this site at times and they let some very offensive things get past them.
I still maintain, the power button is still the best filter. Keep it in the off position.
