Adults keep arguing over what’s best for children without even asking the kids what they think.
April 14, 2016 6:53 pm at 6:53 pm #1146817MDGParticipantOk, so I asked my kids.
They said that they wanted to stay home, surf the internet, and eat cookies.
April 14, 2016 7:01 pm at 7:01 pm #1146818ChortkovParticipantOoh… Cookies are not so healthy. Too much sugar, and often margarine. Better not.
April 14, 2016 7:15 pm at 7:15 pm #1146819kfbParticipantRebYidd- At what age do you think they should have say in their education?
Parents want certain things for their children and they want them to be educated in a certain way. Some parents want their children to learn Torah most of the day while some parents want their children to learn secular studies most of the day.
April 14, 2016 8:42 pm at 8:42 pm #1146820👑RebYidd23ParticipantThat’s funny. When I was a kid I wanted to study art, learn science, play sports and read about history. And it’s unfair to force kids to learn the way their parents want them to.
April 14, 2016 9:04 pm at 9:04 pm #1146821CTLAWYERParticipantI remember my grandfather saying: when I want your opinion I’ll tell you what it is.
April 15, 2016 4:09 am at 4:09 am #1146822The QueenParticipantThe Montessori method, gives children some autonomy over their education. I think it would be wonderful if the idea would be mainstreamed.
April 15, 2016 3:03 pm at 3:03 pm #1146823The little I knowParticipantThese days, even parents have little say in their kids education.
April 15, 2016 3:14 pm at 3:14 pm #1146824☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOdd parent have a lot more say.
April 15, 2016 4:03 pm at 4:03 pm #1146825🍫Syag LchochmaParticipanti used to love the Montessori method but as an OT i see the problems it raises. besides it being very very difficult to use side by side with learning sifrei kodesh, children who have weak skills learn to avoid those skill areas completely instead of working thru them. Children who struggle with fine motor or group work will sometimes opt out of activities that develop those skills and fall further behind.
April 15, 2016 4:50 pm at 4:50 pm #1146826The QueenParticipantSyag, Would be great if some good minds would work through the snags and figure a new method, based on Montessori. A fixed up version to take care of all the issues you mention. We can call it the “Syag Lchochma Method”.
April 15, 2016 5:21 pm at 5:21 pm #1146827🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantthat would be great but why my name? *shudder*
As it happens, i am working with some amazing people on developing an early childhood curriculum that is based on the developmental milestones. Maybe you can join us?
April 15, 2016 8:43 pm at 8:43 pm #1146828The QueenParticipantSyag, “why my name?”
You obviously gave it some thought and came up with some of the weak points, all you have to do is figure out how to improve them.
