1. Are there really Yiddush newspapers currently in print that are hundreds of pages long?
2. Are they daily newspapers?
3. Do people recycle them after reading? Or do they leave them at a barber’s shop, bus stop, coffee shop or etc locations for others to read (including home)?
4. Are Yiddush newspapers heavier than regular newspapers?
Thank you!

The Main ones are Der Yid and Der Tsitung which are Chassidish newpapers and the Forvitz which is secular socialist newspaper
March 13, 2017 2:26 am at 2:26 am #1225660JosephParticipantThere are about a dozen Yiddish weekly papers in the US, with a number of them larger than 100 pages.
March 13, 2017 2:28 am at 2:28 am #1225661Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantThere are still secular Jews who read Yiddish newspapers?
March 13, 2017 2:29 am at 2:29 am #1225662LightbriteParticipantLol I love you guys (No one made fun of me for writing Yiddush. Twice!)
Thank you. That was a super typo, twice-o.
March 13, 2017 2:31 am at 2:31 am #1225663LightbriteParticipantMaybe there are still secular Jews that speak Yiddish ?
Do people have them at home then? The weekly paper? Or take out the sections to read portions at a time? Generally speaking.
Maybe I can order one on EBAY or something. I want to see one IRL. So interesting.
Thank you
March 13, 2017 2:37 am at 2:37 am #1225664zahavasdadParticipantThere are also some frum jews who read the Forvitz , However most of its readership is the english language version “The Forward”

The YIVO is secular yiddish language institute with many archives of yiddish literature, they have a cultural institue called the folksbiene where they perform classic yiddish songs and plays
March 13, 2017 2:48 am at 2:48 am #1225666MammeleParticipantLightbrite: not quite the “real” thing, but you should be able to get Der Yid via email, although I don’t know the email address to subscribe.
And if the mods will allow, there are some pages of a section of di Tzeitung (not the news portion) available online.

If you are interested in real Yiddish songs , you might want to look up Oyfn Pripetshik (The Warm Hearth) , You might recoginize it from Schinderls List, Another popular secualr yiddish song is Bei Mir Bistu Shein
March 13, 2017 3:35 am at 3:35 am #1225668MammeleParticipantSorry about that. This new system is truly Purim’dig…
In any case LB, google is your friend, and correct spelling matters.
