What is the “known” zchus for getting chosson bereishis?

I don’t know the “known” zechus, but in the Shul I daven in, for the past 4 (maybe even 5-7) years, the bochur who got Chosson Berashis, all got engaged that year B”H!

This past year’s bochur, we thought it didn’t “work”, but on Shmini Atzeres, we found out he got engaged before Yom Tov!

I also heard something about Chosson Bereishis being a zchus for shidduchim although when discussing it with someone over yuntif they didn’t know anything about it and was curious if others had any insight.

    Mazal Tov to that bochur!

    …someone over yuntif they…

Exactly, what is yuntif? This is a classic broken-telephone word! Gut Yom Tov is said so much and so fast, that now it is yuntif!!!

Zchus for Chosson Bereishis goes to an individual who is capable of leining Parshas Bereishis from a Sefer Toroh. This is just basic.

the minhag nowadays is to give aliyos to people even if they can’t lein, since the ba’al kriyah is motzi everyone.

In most Shuls, having lots of money is a Zchus for Chassan Bereishis. Or, in other Shuls, being the biggest Talmid Chacham is the Zchus for getting someone to buy Chassan B’reishis for you.

They offered me Chosson Beraishis, but I refused for same reason as gelila!

The Chosson Bereishis @our Shul is 95&3/4 years young. Is there any Shul out there whose Chosson Bereishis is older than the Chosson Bereishis @our Shul? or does our Shul hold the Guinness record for this Simchas Toroh?

147, I don’t know, because the kibbud hasn’t been auctioned off yet for my shul.

I do know that the person who usually gets chosson Torah (the same person has been buying it for him for many years) has finished Shas many, many times. I believe he has taught the entire Shas to others (via Daf Yomi and other shiurim) about 6-7 times already. He has an incredible knowledge of Shailos u’teshuvos from the major poskim, and can quote from all of them with ease.

    Definitely deserving of chosson Torah!
