I would venture a guess that 70% of those who are part of the dirshu kinyan torah daf yomi program are in fact chassidish. I know of 2 chassidishe kollelim that devote a full seder daily to learning the daf b-iyun.. participation in the program, translated to participation in the siyum.

According to a bankrate.com article written in 2016 the average cost for a family of 4 to attend a giants game at metlife stadium (includes 4 tickets, parking and a beer for each) was $629 (and the beers back then were only $5 according to the article). Thats over $600 for family of 4 – $125+ per person. Thats the cost of attending an event, any event at metlife stadium, which according to forbes is one of the most expensive stadiums ever built.

@CTR. The cost to attend a baseball gave has risen 350+%, adjusted for inflation, in the last 30 years.

    “cute attempt though”

just listen to sports radio in the weeks leading up to the playoffs for all major sports. the “rank and file” sports fan also laments that he is priced out of these major events.

“How about “not everyone wants to go”.”

I’m sure there are those who would prefer to stay home where its nice and warm. Then, there are those who are not hyped about a “siyum” because the last day is actually 3 days later on shabbos, and actual siyumim are being planned. Im sure dirshu is stealing some of their thunder with their event 6 weeks later.

“How come how come they didn’t have such problems with previous events eh”?
Im sure if someone digs through the archives, the coffee room has the same comments about being “priced out”.

“For the thousands who cannot afford the pricey seats while others are dining on steaks & wine, this won’t lead to much chizuk Hatorah at all.”

A cheap shot at the Agudah AND those who can afford to dine of steaks and wine.

“Agudah is a critical Mossad for the Klal, I appreciate the tremendous good they do for all of us.”

Everything they do costs money. How much appreciation do you REALLY have? Do you send them a check several times a year? Do you go to their dinner? How do you support the Agudah so that they can continue doing good for you? Standing on the side with pom poms cheering them on, doesnt pay for the things they do. Selling suites at Met Life statidium does. Lihavdil, this is the same economics of every sports team trying to sell seats to their sporting events.

Not everything is a positive for everyone. Clearly, for Joseph and his ilk, a somber mood motivates them to say selichos which in turn moves them to teshuva. For others, for whatever reason, such a setting is not.

“Tisha B’Av is when we focus on what we are missing — the Bais Hamikdash.”

Some choose to focus on WHY it is missing and use the day to motivate themselves to correct it. You spend the day in a way that is most appropriate and meaningful to you, others will spend the day in a way that is most meaningful and appropriate for them. If you cant fargin them that, perhaps THAT should be what you work on for yourself , Tisha B’av and the rest of the year.

“apushata: Your answer is similar to those who say if you don’t think women should not dress pritzusdikly, then don’t look.”

Actually its not. You believe videos are wrong, dont watch them, period. Say kinnos. Learn megillas eicha. Go to the beis hakvaros. Mourn the shechina in galus. Others sitting and watching a video have zero bearing on you and how you spend your day.

The only way the 2 situations are analogous is if someone followed you around all day with a portable video player strapped to his chest playing a video. Is THIS the problem?

“Artscroll” did not go to Rav Schach Z’l. Rav Gifter Z’l went to Rav Schach and presented the view of the American Gedolim who wholeheartedly endorsed the work of Artscroll. As a result of that meeting Rav Schach Z’l, while not endorsing Artscroll in any way, did not publicly come out against it.

The OP specifically mentions “bekiyus seder”, because the goal of a bekiyus seder NOT to learn the sugya in depth with every chdidush from Rav Baruch Ber or Rav Shimon Shkop. The point is, surprise, bekiyus. The faster one can get through a daf, the more “bekiyus” one will have, so that when learning beiyun and a concept off the daf being learned is brought up by the gemara, tosfoas or anyone else, one will have some context to the question being asked or the point being made. In short, if the point is gaining a bekiyus of a lot of gemara, why not go as quickly as possible.

Of course its political. It always is political. The reality is, blue states, and the majority of their voters trend to certain demographics. Under democratic leadership, the focus was on the accounting practices of those known “red” supporters. News? Hardly.

Gray Matter. Why do you assume a coworker would outright turn down a polite invitation.
As for kol isha, i’m, really not concerned a non frum teenager with mental disabilities, as the OP puts it, would do much singing of zemiros. The point here is, the coworker in this scenario (I highly doubt it actually happened) is not being very nice and friendly as he takes a dig at frum people, no reason to respond in kind, but invite them to see how beautiful it is to keep shabbos, the torah way.

Rav Menashe Ben Yisroel, of Portugeese descent, who was Rav in Amsterdam in the mid 17th century, addressed the “10 lost shvatim” in a letter, published under the title “Mikveh Yisroel” in response to those who felt the recently discovered Inca Indians were descendents of the 10 shvatim.

If people believed the Inca indians were descended of the 10 shvatim, I guess any and all wild theories are on the table.
