As a chossen over thirty years ago, I was concerned over how it would be financially possible to continue learning for many years in kollel after the chasuna. Rebbitzen Scheinberg told me how Rav Scheinberg, while the mashgiach in Yeshivas Chofetz Chaim in New York many years earlier, would come home erev Shabbos depressed over another week without a paycheck. Rebbitzen Scheinberg would tell him, “Don’t worry, I’ve got fish and chicken for Shabbos.” That calmed me somewhat. She also told me that she didn’t know which z’chuos would get her into Olom Emes, but she was certain of one: the frozen ground fish she kneaded into the Rosh Yeshiva’s daily fishball diet were so painful to prepare would be a “guaranteed ticket”! A”H

Boruch Dayan haEmes. Her sister is the well known author and teacher Rebbetzin Ruchoma Shain amus”h and her parents were Reb Yaakov Yosef and Mrs Herman, among the few turn of the century immigrants to the US to live a fully Torah lifestyle.

I believe she was a sister to Yblch”t Rebbetzin Ruchoma Shain of “All for the Boss” fame. Rebbetzin Scheinberg was “Bessie” in the book.

I just got back from the levaya and what i can say is “me ke’amcha yisrael”. Unfortunately we had to gather for such a sad event, but to see so many Jews stop what they were doing to go to the levaya, so many Jews together answering amen to kadish, so many Jews… was such a chizuk in and of itself. I am so proud to be part of such a special nation. A lot was mentioned about the Rebbetzin that one can think about and try to emulate her. A levaya is a time when you hear so much about a person, and it’s an opportune time to think about our ways, and how we can grow to be like the meesa, whomever it may be. The Rebbezin’s chessed, mesiras nefesh, hachnasas orchim and tefilla was mentioned a lot.”Pe’ah pascha bechachma vesoras chessed al leshona” was also brought up a lot…there’s a lot to learn from the Rebbetzin, there’s a lot to learn from every Jew. Iy”H every little thing we change after being inspired from going to a levaya(which should be very very very infrequently, iy”H Moshiach will come now and we won’t need tzaaros), all these changes should be a zechus aliyah for the neshama of the meisa, as well as a zechus for all of klal yisrael. I’d like to thank all of Bnei Yisrael for being so amazing and inspiring. I am so lucky to be apart of such a special nation.

live4hashem – instead of meisa/meesa – nifteres is the word to use. I was able to see the first few speakers via the link, and as you say, there is much we can learn from the nifteres. we now see Yeshiva Torah Ohr as a large Torah Institution, but at one point it was only a dream. Look how beautiful they worked on a dream and produced such a tremendous Mokom Torah.

#20-
They were married for 78 years. I know that R’Scheinberg was 19 when he got married – so she could have easily have been 18.
Comment by NoNonsense — October 22, 2009 @ 8:08 am
hi – the rosh hayeshiva is 99 meaning a three year age difference – ‘if’ he got married at 19 then she would have been 16 or 17 depending on when birthday and chasunah fell out – in those days (and even today) people got married under 18 – i know he is 99 because i call the rosh hayeshivah on (or around) his birthday every year – i wonder how this will affect the annual dinner as november 8th is during shloshim – baruch dayan haemes – be well
Comment by YitzFleischman — October 22, 2009 @ 11:58 am
During the hespedim, they said the Rebbetzin was SEVENTEEN when she got married and they were married EIGHTY years. I have been marvelling over this for a number of years, since I heard Reb. Altusky mention that they were married 77 years! How many people even LIVE that long! What an amazing blessing!!
May she be a meilitz yashar for Klal Yisroel.
