REPORTS: Boro Park Restaurant Selling Treif

tm.jpgVERIFIED FACTS AND THE UPDATED STORY CAN BE READ BY CLICKING HERE:

The Boro Park Jewish community is reeling, and rumors are flying regarding the alleged discovery of Treif (non-Kosher) meat at a popular late-night eatery. YWN is aggressively working on gathering accurate, credible information for our readers, and the following is just based on people who were at the scene during the night / early-morning commotion.

According to eye-witnesses on the scene at the “show-down” early this morning, someone -possibly a customer, or the Mashgiach – noticed packages of Treif hotdogs being delivered to Cheskel’s Shawarma King, located at 3715 13th Avenue.

Reports of what transpired next are conflicting. Apparently, the Mashgiach of the restaurant arrived with some other Rabbonim to do an inspection of the restaurant. Shortly after, a large crowd gathered outside the store (at approximately 3:00AM), and a fight involving a knife broke out.

The NYPD and Boro Park Shomrim were dispatched, and the crowd was dispersed.

YWN attempted to find the owner of the store and the Mashgiach, but were unsuccessful.

Additionally, it’s important to note that the store has maintained the name “Cheskel’s”. This is the previous owners first name, Mr. Cheskel Roth, who is currently in Eretz Yisroel.

Mr. Roth suffered a cardiac arrest approximately two years ago, and miraculously survived. Following his recovery, he sold the Boro Park establishment, but kept his second highly-successful location in Monticello, NY, which is opened during the summer months.

The Boro Park restaurant is very popular, and can be seen packed until very late at night – especially on Thursday evenings.

PLEASE NOTE: YWN would like to once again make it clear, that the above information is not necessarily facts, but due to the fact that we have been receiving hundreds of requests to post the story, and after consulting with a Rov, we have done so. As soon as any P’sak is given by a Mashgiach, or any Rabbonim in Boro Park, YWN will bring you the information.

  1. The most trusted name in news is back again, yasher koach. Keep us posted. I was never there BH. Can anyone tell us if the food tasted trief

  2. Whoever was there laitly, and bought a frank, ask your ruv what kind of tshuva is needed, YWN might post soon these details; and be yourself “mchazek”

  3. To #3: The three steps of Teshuva are well-known (regret, confession, abandoning the sin). I am confident that, anyone who does those and, in addition, works on Shmiras HaLashon, will be in very good spiritual shape.

  4. innocent till proven guilty .. lets figure out the facts first chevreman ..bal machsher has to be interrogated and there needs to be complete transparency to get to the bottom of this , fast! and if its true ,theres a price to pay .. first and foremost we need to send a message to anyone else who might think of bringing oscar mayer treifikdike shmutz into their eateries ..

  5. Is that the picture of the actual treif hot dogs from the restaurant or a photo of treif hot dogs from somewhere else?

  6. The recession can’t be too bad if so many people still have money to squander on restaurants. B”H, while dining on vegetarian fare at home, after bedika k’hilchosa, at least for achilas macholos asoros I won’t need tshuva.

  7. I love reading the entries you post. I think you usually make good judgements about what to post. I think this is an error. If the article stated that you spoke to the mashgiach and heard FIRST HAND what happened, instead of onlookers, bystanders, ah mentsch er hot gehehrt dos un dos, etc.

This is the chiyuv. None of this is emes yet. Room to be choshed, certainly. That yesod in hilchos loshon hora is missing.

The fact that many urged this be posted is only succumbing to populism, not adhereing to the etzem halochos in such a serious matter.

Should this have been posted? Maybe. But with a different emphasis with the yesodos I raised.

  8. HAGOAN HARAV SHMUEL BIRNBAUM ZATZA’L SAID IN A SHMUSE AFTER THE STORY IN MONSEY WITH TREIF MEATS THAT HASHEM TAKES AWAY THE SPECIAL SHMIRAH FROM KLAL YISROEL THEY SHOULD NOT EAT NON KOSHER FOOD WHEN HE SEES THEY ARE NON CAREFUL ENOUGH THEMSELVES HE SAID ITS NOT ENOGH JUST HAVING A HECSHER ITS SO EASY TO SNEAK THINGS IN FROM THE BACK DOOR HE SAID YOU NEED TO KNOW THE OWNER IS REALLY A YAREI SHAMAYIM AND HE HIM SELF REALLY IS CARFULL NOT JUST TO RELY ON THE HECHSHER A CLOSE FREIND OF MINE OBSERVED VERY RESENTLY A PIZZA STORE OWNER IN BORO PARK AT A WHIOLE SALE FOOD STORE PURCHASING A BULK PACKAGE OF TREIF CHESSE THE OWNER CALLS HIMSELF FRUM AND SHOMER SHABBOS THIS IS A TRUE STORY 2 WEEKS AGO THE POINT IS YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL NOT JUST RUN IN TO ANY STORE EVEN TOSE WITH HECSHERIM YOU THINK ARE VERY GOOD

  9. #3, I feel very bad for anyone that has eaten treife meat as a result of shopping in this store. But when u mention to ask ur Rav on how to do Teshuva, I suggest u ask him about how to repent for yesterday’s Lashon Horah, lying, Sinas Chinam etc…all of the Aveiros that u did knowingly, and that u had control over. When someone shops in a store with a reliable hechsher and then later finds out that what he ate what treif, is purely a Shogeg. Lets work on those that we have control over, and hopefully Hashem will protect us from those that we dont.

  10. The Rav Hamachshir Rav Babad did research and found that a new non Jewish employee was told to go to KRM to buy hotdogs and by accident went somewhere else. The treif hotdogs were never opened.

  11. THE RAV HAMACHSHIR RAV BABAD HAS CLARIFIED THE SITUATION :

THE STORE RECENTLY HIRED A NON-JEWISH EMPLOYEE. THEY RAN OUT OF FRANKS AND WAS SENT TO KRM STORE TO BUY SOME FRANKS. HE BOUGHT A TRAIF PACKAGE AND GAVE IT TO THE MANAGER. HE PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE TO RETURN AT DAYS END. THE PACKAGE WAS FOUND UNOPENED IN THE FRIDGE. THE ENTIRE STOCK AND RESTAURANT AREA IS UNDER 24 HOUR VIDEO SURVEILLANCE. THIS IS NO MONSEY SCANDAL. PERIOD, END OF STORY.

PLEASE CLARIFY THE DETAILS WITH A SCREAMING HEADLINE HOW THE SITUATION WAS CLARIFIED, AND THE STORE IS STILL UNDERF HASHGACHAH.

    THANK YOU

  12. If you don’t have “accurate, credible information” then all you have to report is an altercation at a restaurant, possibly resulting from someone believing they saw treff food being unloaded (or was it kosher food in treff shipping containers?).

First you should get the “accurate, credible information”, then you should report it.

  13. Rabbi Babad who gives the Hechsher on this store will release a statement soon saying that everything is fine and there was never any traife meat sold in this store. B”H YWN gave us this story with a clear statement that it may not be true and as we will soon see it is in fact not true and all is B”H good.

  14. Being in the Kashruth field, I have a couple of observations:
Mashgichim out in the field are underpaid individuals, many of them untrained newcomers to to the frum world.
Who is now becoming a mashgiach? mainly drop outs of the economy.
Their work is totally boring, so they sometimes go to a side room for hours & play with their laptops.

The consumer assumes that the Rav Hamachshir goes on a checking tour every so often. That is totally wishful thinking.

The Kosher business has 2 components: Kosher & business. It is up to the consumer to check where the owner’s heart is: on kosher or on business.

  15. Can I safely assume that since YWN reported the name of the restaurant the facts have been verified? I can assure you that I will never go into that restaurant hereafter, now that it has been named.

  16. The picture above is an actual picture taken last night at the scene.

The store is under the Hashgocho of the Tartikover Bais Din, not R’ Yechiel Babad, Tartikover Ruv.

  17. #12, I know you feel strongly about your point, but please stop shouting! Go to the YWN Coffee Room and read the “Rules” post, especially the one about posting in ALL CAPS.

  18. I dont understand why u report unconfirmed news. As of 4:30 AM there has been a clarification that the report is false! it was a simple mix up from a non-jewish employee. no non-kosher meat was used in the resturaunt. now people are all riled up about this report and getting all excited over nothing. Let us not forget the effect this will have on the establishment itself!! what ever happened to being “Dan L’Kaf Z’Chus?!?!?. I am shocked and very dissapointed about a seemingly ‘religous’ news website. I’m not a rabbi, and as a good Jew, i think this site has the responsibility to report the fact that this story has been found to be false.

    – According to Rabbi Moshe Babad, the restaurant’s mashgiach and spokesman for the Tartikover Rov, who provides the Shawarma King’s hechsher, “This is totally an isolated incident.”

may Hashem forgive us all for the needless Loshon Hora and possible damage we cause with events like these.

  19. Regardless of whether the story is true, does this restaurant have a mashgiach temidi (trained by the rav hamachshir) or does it rely solely on the proprietor and his workers? Also, does the rav hamachshir have specific standards and rules that are clear and consistently applied? For this reason, the larger and more organized kashrus organizations, which require a mashgiach temidi and have written standards and contracts with which stores must comply, can often provide better kashrus. Where I live, every meat restaurant must have a mashgiach temidi and any event catered at a shul must have an outside mashgiach.

  20. before more false rumors are posted i would just like everyone to know that this storey is false and that there was a misunderstanding about which the details will come out shortly. stay tuned as im sure yeshiva world will be breaking the true storey any moment.
