BREAKING: Plane Makes Emergency Landing At Newark Airport; Passengers Evacuated Via Chutes.[7:15PM EST]

A plane with hydraulic problems made an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport this evening, forcing the temporary closure of the entire airport, authorities said

There were no reports of injuries, and the plane has already been evacuated, fire officials told The Star-Ledger.

Newark fire department officials were dispatched to the scene, according to Capt. John Brown, an agency spokesman, but there were no smoke or fire conditions aboard the plane.

Brown said the plane apparently had a landing gear malfunction near the nose of the aircraft.

It was not immediately clear what type of plane was involved in the landing or how many people were on board. A law enforcement source described the aircraft as a “passenger plane.”

The entire airport was shut down as of 6:54 p.m., “due to an aircraft incident,” according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Additional details were not immediately available.

There were unconfirmed reports that passengers were ordered to leave the plan via emergency chutes.

Firefighters and ambulances were sent to Terminal A at Newark Airport this evening, and some remained at the scene as of 7 p.m.
