Explosion in Givat Shaul Matzah Factory

A gas cylinder exploded at about 9:00am Sunday morning, 24 Adar 5772, located on Givat Shaul Street in the capital. Five people were injured, three from a sheetrock partition that was blown out and two of the owner’s children. All five are listed in light condition.

A number of weeks ago a worker’s hand became entangled in a piece of machinery in the same facility.

It appears that as a result of the damage from today’s gas explosion the factory will remain closed until repairs can be made. This will undoubtedly leader to a matzah shortage as this major supplier is compelled to halt operations just week before yomtov.

Emergency responders report it was “yad Hashem” that no one was killed or seriously injured in the powerful gas explosion.
