Swedish officials are denying the reports that the suspected bomber, Mehdi Ghezali, is a Swedish national yet this is what the international media is reporting. According to the Bulgarian media, the suspected bomber was an Algerian-Swedish Muslim who spent two years in Guantanamo Bay.
ABC News in its coverage of the story showed the bomber’s forged Michigan driver’s license, who according to investigators in Burgas belonged to the bomber. Much of the identification of the bomber by Bulgarian authorities seems to be based on airport security surveillance cameras that show Ghezali before he mingled into the Israeli group and placed the bomb on the bus.
ABC added “Michigan Operator’s License” with the name “Jacque Felipe Martin” showed that the suspect included a fake Louisiana address as his permanent residence. The address is actually that of a Baton Rouge, Louisiana casino, called the Belle of Baton Rouge. According to Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov, the bomber was in his country for 4-7 days ahead of the attack and is estimated to be in his mid thirties.
One of the bodies recovered following the attack was literally torn apart, leading forensic experts to believe that it was the remains of the bomber. Everyone is waiting for the results of DNA testing since back in the USA, Michigan state officials report there is no person listed in their driver’s license database.
Ynet adds that Michigan is home to one of America’s largest Arab populations.
