Egyptian ground and air forces are operating in Sinai as the manhunt responsible for this week’s terrorist attack in Sinai and the Kerem Shalom area that left 16 Egyptian policemen dead.
Egyptian forces apparently entered the village of al-Toumah, where the 20 terrorists were eliminated. Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has vowed to wipe out those responsible for the attack. The ongoing operations signals the president is being true to his word as he is has given troops the order to eliminate the sought after terrorists.
Foreign media reports quoting local residents report Egyptian military aircraft operating about 10km (6 miles) from Gaza, adding “there are sounds of explosions”. There are civilians among the wounded as the major counterterrorism operation continues.
In Gaza, there are reports that Hamas forces are taking up position along the border with Egypt. The troop movements in Gaza are unclear as Hamas officials are stating they back the actions of Egyptian forces in Sinai.
