8 People Shot At Empire State Building; Perp Shot Dead By NYPD [UPDATED 10:50AM EST]

9:30AM EST: [UPDATE IN EXTENDED ARTICLE] Police say at least seven people have been shot outside the Empire State Building Friday morning.

Authorities said emergency personnel received a call about the shooting at Fifth Avenue and 34th Street just after 9:00AM.

The shooter has reportedly been shot dead by NYPD Officers.

One of the victims is in traumatic arrest, and likely to die.

UPDATE 10:50AM EST: Police responding opened fire on the suspect, killing him. At least five others were hurt in a possible stampede as thousands of terrified bystanders tried to flee.

Three sources said the gunman was a disgruntled employee who was fired Thursday from his job inside the building. A source on the scene said the shooter may have been targeting a coworker, who is believed to have been killed, before opening fire on bystanders.

    The shooter is a disgruntled employee, fired a year ago from his job as a designer at a handbag company called Hazan Imports.

    When will people like Bloomberg stop their knee-jerk reactions and realize that if normal people would be armed, as they are in Israel, it would be impossible for crazed gunmen to wipe out nine people. the gunman would be cut down immediately by armed citizens.

    Very tragic. But our politicians are also to blame for outsourcing all jobs to India & China. This guy lost his job
    and knew he wouldn’t find another one. The Dept. of Labor also allows in tons of foreigners on H1B visas to steal jobs away from Americans.

    I was unjustly fired after being mistreated. Then the company, a powerful Wall St. corporation, used criminal methods, harassment & intimidation into scaring me not to sue them. I can see how mistreatment & being fired can drive a person over the edge.I’m not saying this was the case here.You can’t even get a lawyer to help you bec. they are so money-hungry.
