Sharpton: Blaming de Blasio For Police Shootings ‘Reckless’

deshThe Rev. Al Sharpton is denouncing any violence against police in the name of Eric Garner and Michael Brown.

He also says angry rhetoric that somehow blames protesters or Mayor Bill de Blasio for creating the climate for such slayings is “reckless.”

Sharpton appeared with Garner’s wife and mother Sunday morning, a day after the shooting of two NYPD officers in their patrol car.

The gunman posted messages online saying he intended to shoot two “pigs” in retaliation for the police chokehold death of Garner. He later killed himself.

Sharpton also says he has received nine racist threats on his personal cellphone since the slayings. He is turning those over to the FBI.

Sharpton’s comments comes after De Blasio and the president of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, Patrick Lynch, have been locked in a public battle over treatment of officers following the grand jury’s decision in the Garner case. Just days ago, Lynch suggested police officers sign a petition that demanded the mayor not attend their funerals should they die on the job. On Saturday, some officers turned their backs on de Blasio as he walked into the hospital.

“That blood on the hands starts at the steps of City Hall, in the office of the mayor,” Lynch said. “After the funerals, those responsible will be called on the carpet and held accountable.”

  1. If anyone is “reckless”, it is Sharpton himself. He just knows how to shoot his mouth off, no matter what the circumstance is. The result has been mayhem…as in Crown Heights (Yankel Rosenbaum HY”D), Freddy’s in Harlem (2 people killed)and countless others. Worse yet, he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing…first instigating and then pretending that he is a statesman (as in today’s Daily News). Unbelievably, he is considered an adviser by both our Mayor and President. Of course, he is a criminal that has avoided paying judgements against him as in the Tawana Brawley fraud.

  2. This reminds me of the reaction of the American Muslim community in the days following 9/11. Instead of showing sympathy for their fellow Americans, and instead of showing outrage at their coreligionists for their horrible acts, they made bogus unfounded accusations of Islamophobia. Same here. Sharpton’s main angle is to say that he’s getting threats also. Maybe he is, maybe he isn’t. The man has zero credibility since the Tawana Brawly days.

How on earth does the Democrat establishment give this guy respect? Don’t tell me about crackpot Republicans. They do exist, but they get no respect in their party. Sharpton is welcomed in the Democrat Party as a senior advisor and statesman.
