Judge Rejects Ex-NY Assembly Speaker Silver’s Bid To Toss Charges

silvA judge has rejected former New York state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s latest bid to toss out corruption charges against him.

Federal Judge Valerie Caproni in Manhattan ruled Friday that prosecutors have sufficiently described charges in an indictment brought against Silver after his January arrest.

Silver’s lawyers say they’re reviewing the ruling and are looking forward to a trial, which they say will clear his name.

Prosecutors say the case involves bribes and kickbacks. The judge says she’s not buying the defense’s depiction of the allegations as merely undisclosed conflicts of interest.

The judge says the alleged crimes aren’t washed away by the fact that money went to entities in which Silver had an undisclosed interest. The Manhattan Democrat resigned from his Senate leadership post after his arrest.

Caproni has set a Nov. 2 trial date.

  1. Oh please the man is getting justice and what he deserves. We should be proud of him because he stole money. Because he gave away tax dollars like it was his own check book
He got caught and that’s it

  2. Whoever thinks that any single politician isnt benefiting similarly, including the Governor, all the way down, is drinking a weird kind of Kool Aid.
