Brooklyn: 1 Injured In Exchange Of Fire Between NYPD And Suspects


guAuthorities say one suspect was injured during an exchange of fire between police and three suspects in Brooklyn.

It happened Wednesday night near Park and North Portland avenues.

The NYPD says three police officers on patrol in an unmarked car were fired at as they drove past the three suspects. They say the car was hit several times but missed the two officers and one lieutenant inside.

Police say the officers returned fire at the fleeing suspects.

A .45-caliber gun was found beneath a nearby car.

The following is a statement given to YWN by the NYPD:

On Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at approximately 10:43PM, three plain clothed officers assigned to the 88 Precinct observed three males involved in a dispute in the vicinity of Park Avenue and North Portland Avenue, within the confines of the 88 Precinct. The two police officers and lieutenant, operating an unmarked department auto, drove past the suspects and when they turned the vehicle around to approach them, they were fired upon by at least two of the suspects. The department auto was stuck numerous times, missing the officers inside. The officers returned fire, and observed the suspects fleeing the location on foot. A .45 caliber Sar Arms firearm was recovered under the tire of a nearby vehicle. A canvass of area hospitals resulted in the discovery of a 23-year-old male who arrived at Beth Israel Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left leg. The suspect remains in stable condition and is now in custody. The two outstanding suspects remain unapprehended at this time. The three plain clothed officers were removed to Methodist Hospital for the treatment of tinnitus.
