PHOTOS & AUDIO: Thousands Attend Asifa Held In Boro Park Titled ‘Legal Symposium’

ben3.jpgThousands of men gathered for an Asifa on Tuesday evening in the Ohr Hachayim Viznitz Hall, in Boro Park, focusing on the timeless (but also all too timely) theme of “Vi’asisa hayashar vi’hatov.”

It featured – Harav Avrohom Schorr, Shlita, Harav Dovid Ozieri, Shlita; as well as an address by the Spinka Rebbe Shlita. Additionally, two respected legal experts – Benjamin Brafman, Esq. and Jacob Laufer, Esq addressed the massive audience. The evening’s chairman was Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zweibel from the Agudath Israel of America.

HIGHLIGHT: Click HERE for Attorney Benjamin Brafman (English), who once again was the highlight of this important Asifa, and opened up his serious & important speech with a humorous remark by saying: “I’ve been sitting here for the past 2 hours looking at the really amazing sea of faces, and trying to figure out who – and and where the FBI agents are – because there is no doubt in mind that there is one in here. So I’m going to be careful in what I say, and how I say it!”

  1. I’m sure everybody knows that law of hanging up posters about last night’s gathering was broken .
so after all is said and done , when is breaking a law of our government considered OK and when not . the point that I’m trying to make is as follows , everybody should just look in the mirror and ask themselves have i ever broken a law , no matter how minute it or insignificant it mite be in our own humble opinion .
after looking and thinking about this for a minute , maybe then we can stop throwing all the people who were arrested last week under the bus .

  2. while the entire evening was very uplifting. Mr. ben brafman stole the show. It is a must listen for everyone! He has some amazing jokes, stories and mussar. what a great speaker!!

  3. This is so funny!!!…………….EDITED BY SITE MODERATOR…………How ludicrous is that???

MODERATORS RESPONSE: Actually, the only thing ludicrous is your comment. It’s quite obvious that you didn’t listen to one word of any speeches.

Here is a tip: Listen to the first 5 minutes of Ben Brafman’s speech, and the last 3 minutes of the Spinka Rebbe’s speech…..although this is probably too complicated for you to do….

  4. I agree with yosse that illegally posting signs about a symposium discussing not breaking the law was quite hypocritical. I disagree with his statement that we should not throw those arrested under the bus. What we should be doing is looking were we can improve our own actions that may result in being arrested and more importantly causing chillul hashem. We should stop being accepting of people who break laws in our own community. Law breakers should not be the next honary of a Yeshiva’s dinner. Maybe then things will change.

  5. TO YOSSI (NO. 1):

You are 100% right. The “Money Laundering” laws were never inted by Congress to apply to ordinary citizens.

As Ben Branfman said last night, they were explicitly designed as an additional tool for law enforcement to use in apprehending drug dealers.

The use of the laws to make a pofrom against the Jewish community with 300 FBI agents and mas arrests is an abuse of authority–a Pogrom!

  6. To #1:
I was thinking the same thing!
Here is an Asifa about doing everything “legal”. Well: This Asifa was publicized 2 ways – via posters and via internet. Publicizing via posters – is iilegal (one can get fined for this) and via internet – is against the Torah (according to many Rabbonim and Rosey Yeshivas)..!!

  7. So many of these comments show that this community is just not ready to move on: Stop treating American or state laws like they are a piece of Gemara for us to interpret, just follow the laws of the land. If everyone simply accepts the fact that to be a good Jew we must follow all of the laws, not to “kvetch a heter” so we can break the ones that get in our way, we can begin to get rid of the massive Chillul Hashem that we are bringing each day. It is not the fault of the FBI, prosecutors, DA’s or anti-semites, it is the fault of those who break the laws and of a community that keeps defending those who do. If there is any place for anger it is at these people who are making all of us and the Torah look so bad.
    ARE WE READY TO CHANGE?

  8. Thanks for editing my “reply #4” – it shows that you have no regard for the truth, rather what you want to spoonfeed to the “Chareidi World”.

  9. To all the wise guys writing about the notices put all around Boro Park and Flatbush, Maybe it is time to dan lekaf zechus and maybe the persons responsible to print and put up paid the city of NY for the uses of the light and telephone polls for this special asifa and maybe therre is a way to have important information notified to the Klal at large. also the politicians that use the same way to promote themselves they also use the poles and maybe pay for that as well..If not before then the Sanitation dept charges later , either way it is a way to get the message out there and it costs money to do so.

  10. # 17 let me get your point strait
we should only dan lekaf zechus when it suits something that you like or feel that is important .
however as i previously posted when you break the law as in hanging up posters it is OK because you feel that it is important to get this news out , yet when someone else breaks the law and does something that you don’t agree with then it is chazer traif .
breaking a law is still breaking a law .

  11. To ad to my #10 comment:
The amount of people attended the Asifa last night in the hall – was way over the legal amount of Capacity allowed. That is again illegal.

  12. #9 Feif Un-
I can only agree with you halfway.
Do you think that in the alte-heim when the police of the town came to arrest some jews they said “you’re under arrest because you’re a jew” ??? Not quite. They had “legitimate” reasons such as spying against the government, tax evasion (the tax would be officially raised as the arrest was taking place) etc.
Some that were arrested in the recent FBI raid have truly broken the law, yet others were coerced into breaking the law just so they can get “caught”. So the raid was in a way a modern day pogrom.

There’s the big picture here and lessons for all of us (I don’t support their breaking the law for ANY reason). However, don’t be so quick to side with the “authorities” and against your own brothers- no matter how low they’ve sunk.
May we all be zoche to the coming of Moshiach b’mheira b’yameinu amen!

  13. #1 Yossi — Please elaborate and support your claim that laws where broken with regard to posters announcing the event.

A couple of years ago a law in my city prohibiting posting signs on telephone poles and so forth was struck down as an unconstitutional infringement on the first amendment.

Unless your a baki in this, you should be afraid of motzei shem ra in this matter:

The moderator’s insult to #4 is NOT acceptable, especially on erev Tisha bAv.

  14. I know both Ben Brafman personally and his son Dovid Brafman is my Rebbe, Both of them are very respectful people. I would like to thank both Ben Brafman and my Rebbe for all that they do for the Jewish nation.
